I am excited to begin a new year with a group of wonderful first grade students. I love to make my classroom a place of hands-on learning that offers a lot of student choice. I follow the workshop model for both reading and math instruction. In this model, students receive instruction in whole group and small group settings using individualized lessons based on students needs. While I am working with a small group of students, the remaining students are working independently and cooperatively in learning centers and through personalized learning tasks.
These kinesthetic learners would be successful with multiple choices of seating in our classroom!
With only straight back chairs and desks, many students are looking for ways to move around or get out of their seats. By providing them with the opportunity to choose how and where they want to learn, I believe it will improve student focus and learning.
Flexible seating is a way to give my students choice in their learning. This will make our classroom a more comfortable and engaging place for everyone!
