  • Lunch Cart and New Book Club Book

    Funded Apr 22, 2024

Our class is thrilled to have a new lunch cart to organize and carry all the lunch boxes to the cafeteria. The class is grateful for the generosity of donors like you!

We also got a set of new books for the book club. The War That Saved My Life is a chapter book that shares the story of a little girl with a clubbed foot and her brother trying to survive the bombing of England by the Germans. We started reading it in class today and could barely put it down.

These donations have created a sense of community in our classroom and we are beyond grateful for you making that happen.”

  • Help Create a Warm, Inviting Classroom With Flexible Seating options.

    Funded Dec 25, 2022

I wish you could see the faces of the students when they walked into the classroom to see the brand-new carpet and flexible seating. The students expressed gratitude and amazement at how generous you all are to create this warm inviting classroom. We have enjoyed using our brand-new globe. The globe has sparked curiosity in the students and has become a great hands-on resource.

The support that is provided by your generous donations is more than appreciated. As an educator, the impact it has on me alone is tremendous. Teaching in an environment where students' needs are met, makes a world of difference. From the bottom of my heart and my students, thank you!”

  • Flexible Seating

    Funded Apr 6, 2021

    We are so thrilled

to have additional books and flexible seating for our classroom. The books we received added to the diversity available for students reading. They have placed 'dibs' on certain books, asking to be next in line to read the title. It is so rewarding to see students excited about reading. The excitement about books and new titles is something I wish you could witness. It would really put in perspective how important a new book can feel to a student.

The flexible seating we received added a perfect incentive for students. They each get a chance to be picked daily for flexible seating. We rotate through the class list, giving each student an equal chance. To see my students around the room, engrossed in their reading and comfortably seated around the room is something I am so grateful for.

Thank you for contributing to my classroom. The value and impact this donation has made are beyond words.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. List

  • Pencils are a Must!

    Funded Mar 1, 2018

Pencils, as simple as they may seem, make a big impact on students daily life in the classroom. Often, we forget to students that are less fortunate, often having a pencil for class is the last thing on their mind.

I will refer to a poem to give you a little inspiration:

    Cause I ain't got a pencil

    By Joshua T. Dickerson

    I woke myself up

Because we ain't' got an alarm clock

Dug in the dirty clothes basket,

Cause ain't nobody washed my uniform

Brushed my hair and teeth in the dark,

    Cause the lights ain't on

Even got my baby sister ready,

    Cause mama wasn't home.

Got us both to school on time,

To eat us a good breakfast.

Then when I got to class the teacher fussed at me,

    Cause I ain't got a pencil.

Thank you for all your support and providing my students with pencils.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. List

  • Classroom Library for 5th Grade

    Funded Nov 11, 2015

The smiles and cheers heard from the students as we opened up our boxes of books from your generous donations made me wish that each and everyone of you could have been here to see. These children were so excited to have new books to look through. Many students actually cheered. Some even hugged their books. I watched them pick out several books, listing which ones they had to read first and could not wait to get a chance to read. It reminded me of a small child at Christmas time tearing at the wrapping paper, anxious to see what's inside. That's exactly what these book provide for these students. An adventure that awaits them as they get inside.

We have been implementing a curriculum called the Daily 5. Each day the students participate in a session in which we refer to as "read to self". The students are excited to choose every morning from the new books, which books they are going to read during this time period. Due to your generous donations, many students are able to pick 3 to 5 books to have as reading materials. This ability to choose has made them very engaged in their reading. As you can see from our pictures, we are getting a lot of use out of the books and are proud to be growing as avid readers.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. List

I work in a urban setting that is high poverty. These students do not have exposure to a variety of books. This is a co teaching classroom with special education, including reading levels from 1st through 5th grade. There's a group of ESL students whom English is not their first language. The classroom is a coteaching classroom with both regular education and special education teacher. We also receive support from an ESL teacher. The students are in great need.
