I recently read a study that showed 86% of high school students were interested in science, yet only 20% actually enjoyed their science classes because they felt that the material did not connect to their lives. I would like to change this number by bringing in real and relevant projects that make a difference in their lives. In the small town where our school is located students have a limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables. We have been given a piece of land at our school to create a garden, and to do that we need tools and the materials to build a healthy garden. My students need hoses, shovels, greenhouses, plant trays, soil, and gloves to build a sustainable garden and to learn how to maintain it. Through this DonorsChoose.org project I hope to build a connection with the curriculum and the students' lives that will be long lasting.
