Earth Day 2011!!!
Funded Apr 22, 2011I just wanted to thank you so much for the materials for Environmental Science. We have used all the materials in the beginning of the year continuously!
The globe has helped us not only with science but, with understanding the world as well.
NOT only have my own 3rd grade class students benefited from this Donorschoose.org donation but, the GATE students as well. WE have tested the water of our Urban school and will be sharing the results with the principal. So we have not only learned but are also able to create awareness around how healthy our water in our school is.
We will be showing other kids how to do this during Earth Day as well.
Thank you so much for advancing our learning!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Shiner

Funded Feb 5, 2011Thank you for the Social Studies Books. So far we have read Who Was Sacagawea, American Revolution, Vietnam War Book, Two Bobbies, and today we will read Rosa (which won the Caldecott Award). "Thanks to you we have learned more about the world," Christian my 3rd grade student said. Also, "We enjoyed Sacagawea so much!," another student exclaimed. Just the pictures alone children were able to see images that are not allowed in textbooks due to the watered down versions of history that is allowed in the classroom. My students have become more aware and have a critical view of history.
We are currently writing letters to the president to talk about the issues we are learning about and putting are knowledge to use by also running a school wide Earth Day!
Thank you for your time and genoristy!

Welcome Back To School Package!!!
Funded Aug 30, 2010Wow! It is a new classroom. I feel so lucky in my school to be the only class with clean, new, studious, academic furniture.
We are so lucky you chose us to do good. We have new tables and chairs and it is magnificent. The kids have said statements regarding the donation such as: "....these chairs make us look really smart", " we are like big kids in this room", and "our room is so much nicer now"!
I told them that the furniture looks genius like they are.
Sincerely and deeply and I thank you for your kindness.”

Lighting The Way : A Study of Renewable Energy!!!
Funded Jun 26, 2010Thank you so much for taking the time to fund our project. In this 3rd grade class we are learning how we can help the environment through energy restoration and sustainable practices. The kit you provided through your donation has made the science in this classroom jump to a whole different hands on level.
Currently our school district is suffering from economic cut backs especially in science and due to your donation we are blessed with the state of the art materials.
Our investigations have included Wind Generation, Solar Power, Matter and Energy.
When the kids ask what they want to be 90% of them say scientists, it is with your help.
Sincerely and DEEPLY I appreciate your conscious contribution.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Shiner
Earth Day!
Funded Apr 21, 2010Hello! and.... Thank you. It has been an amazing unit that started on Earth Day and kept going with your support.
My class had the opportunity to continue understanding energy and its effect on the environment. We went from our Growlab and then kept expanding into energy sources. The kids learned about Wind Powered Generator, Solar Electricity with the Solar Panels, Electricity Vocabulary, and how electromagnetism works!
We are so thankful to be finishing our year together with this last science unit. When my kids ask what they want to be when they grow up they say, "Scientists that want to save the world."
Thank you,
SD”

Funded Oct 30, 2009It is with great ease that I right this Thank You letter. Your donation of a Greenhouse (Growlab) for our plants and seeds request as been remarkable! My students have been so lucky to learn the process of plants and their life cycles. We have taken gardening to a new level at our school with community members coming to be a part of our learning process as well getting donations from PTA to help with the gardening project. This is the beginning of greening our school and we are hoping to keep the momentum going that all started with your donation.
We have planted Sunflowers, Radishes, Lavendar, Beans, and Zinnias. Families are taking care of plants at their homes as well. All of this because of your donation!
Thank you deeply.”

Garden Supplies for a Low Income School in San Francisco
Funded Oct 9, 2009Once upon a time there was a low income school with no idea how to get a garden project going. Then one day our shovels, that you donated through your contributions, came in the mail! We couldn't wait as a classroom or school community. I'm so excited to say we have a garden! Yes, it is in need of constant love, but the kids and staff are happy to do it. To date we have planted Sweet Pea flowers, Sunflowers, Lima Beans, Lavendar Bushes, Strawberry Trees, and even potatoes.
We are hoping to see a garden with lots of flowers by the end of school year. We are also hoping to create a garden that we can share with our families and other classmates, who are in different grades and classrooms.
Without your care we wouldn't have even gotten to, "..and then one day..."
Thank You.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Shiner
