  • Sensory Tools for Regulation!

    Funded Jan 31, 2023

Thank you so much for your generosity. My students were delighted o have new items to add to our calm down center. The sensory items will be used daily during our afternoon mindfulness break or when students just need a moment to reset. There was instant excitement in the room as we opened the boxes and the items were already in use yesterday during mindfulness.

The weighted puppy shoulder and lap weight will be an excellent addition to the meeting rug and will go to great use to help students regulate their bodies to maintain focus to learning. I can't wait to see the impact these items will have on my students abilities to regulate and stay on task.

Thanks you for making this project come to life. Many of my students commented as we opened the boxes just how lucky we are to have so many amazing new items!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marissa

  • Rich Read Alouds

    Funded Oct 13, 2022

In my classroom, read alouds are used for so many purposes. To name just a few, we use them to build children's vocabulary, their ability to answer -wh questions, or retell a story. Having rich and diverse read alouds, that my students can connect, with is vital to meaningful discussions. I strongly believe that the stories we are reading should be filled with experience and characters that emulate my students experiences or those within the surrounding community.

In addition, some of the books from this project will become our mentor texts for upcoming units of studies. A model of the expectations for writing.

Thank you for giving so many beautiful books to my classroom. We will cherish them for years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marissa

  • Save It for Good!

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you so much for giving us the materials we need to make visuals for individual students and our classroom. One of the ways we used the colored ink, laminating pouches, and magnets was to create our vocabulary wall. Each week we read a story for read aloud, across two days. The speech pathologist and I choose rich read alouds that expose students to knew vocabulary words. Over the course of two days, the words is explicitly taught and now becomes part of our vocabulary wall. By having it up in the room as a reference point students are more likely to internalize the word and even use it in their own writing! Thanks for giving us all of the tools we need to make a vocabulary wall this year!”

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you so much for ensuring that we have are having a safe year of learning. With many budget cuts, we are not readily getting as many sanitizing supplies. We are glad to have sanitizer and soap to keep our hands clean. The disinfecting wipes ensure that when students each snack each day that the tables are clean. With your help we have been able to stay in class and learning, while keeping germs away. We know that the materials from this project will continue to help us thrive throughout the germs winter months too. Thank you for your generosity and support!”

  • Making Words with Magna Tiles

    Funded Dec 1, 2022

Thank you for your generous donation to get magnatiles for our classroom. The students squealed with delight when we opened the boxes and wanted to know when we would be having free choice time next. The students have been working hard together to create structures and work collaboratively. They are especially collaborative during clean up as they organize the magnatiles by shape and figure out the best way to stack them into the box. I can't wait to use them to begin building words too! Thank you again for being so generous!”

  • Fostering Independence Through Organization!

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you so much for all of the organization tools for our classroom. It is so helpful when students are able to know where to find materials and how to get them with independence. Not only does it build executive functioning, it also helps students build autonomy in their work. Especially in writing where students work at their own pace on a booklet. The students know where to find another booklet to ensure that they continue writing and build stamina. In addition. we are thankful to have iPad storage this year that is not breaking, falling apart, or not able to charge the iPads. Thank you so much for helping use stay organized and build life skills as well.”

  • Representational Read Alouds

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

Thank you for the amazing read alouds. It is vital for kids to be able to connect with texts filled with characters that look like them or people that they see in their neighborhood. We have already started using many of the read alouds, from this project, to help build students ability to retell the story with the help of a visual organizer known as the story grammar marker. In addition, we also expose students to the rich vocabulary in the books too, pulling out one or two words to study in depth. Thank you for helping to building our rich read aloud library. We look forward to exploring more of the titles in this project throughout the year!”

  • Financial Literacy Should Start Young!

    Funded Sep 4, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation and making financial literacy learning possible this year. As we opened the box the room was buzzing with excitement and conversation. The students carefully studied each box and commented to each other about what they saw inside.

My students were thrilled to receive so many new materials and could not wait to play the various games about money. They were delighted to find out that they would each get their own money kit to use during money lessons. I think the biggest hit were the mini white boards and coins.

Again, we thank you for believing in our classroom and can't wait to see where these new materials take us this year!”

  • Sprucing and Organizing into the End of the Year!

    Funded May 20, 2022

Thank you so much for helping us end the school year on a high note! Our classroom was spruced before the end of the school year and will be off to an even better start in the fall thanks to the materials you helped fund. Our math center charts were more organized and our tables were cleaner too. In fact, we had just used our last wipe when this project was funded. Talk about perfect timing! The students, who headphones had stopped working, were delighted to get a brand new pair to use with their iPads. It was just the joy and excitement that we needed to finish the year strong. Thanks again for your continued commitment to our classroom!”

  • Learning With and For My Students

    Funded Apr 19, 2022

After taking the Sound Wall training this summer, I can't wait for the start of the school year! The training was phenomenal! I am so excited to implement this new tool into my classroom. I firmly believe that having a Sound Wall in my classroom this year will help many of my students break the code, that has previously been an obstacle, to reading and writing. Students will learn not only the sound a letter makes but how to form it with their mouth. It will help students realize that letters are tricky and can make more than one sound based on the point of articulation. Thank you so much for allowing me to participate in one of the best professional developments I have ever attended. It was hands-on, science-based, and inspirational! I can't wait to see where the Sound Wall takes my students this year!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marissa

I am excited to join the PS 142 community this year teaching a group of 2nd and 3rd grade students who all have IEP's (individualized education plans) Each of my students has a learning disability and has had many failures in their short educational carriers before entering my classroom. As a team, my students and I, have worked tirelessly to build a STRONG learning community where everyone is a key member of the team, respects and encourages one another, and is seen for their strengths and not their challenges. Watching my students blossom into confident learners and role models in our school has been an honor. It is so wonderful to be back in-person with students this year. We greatly appreciate your helping ensuring we have the right tools to be successful learners and reduce barriers.
