Moving Helps Us Learn!
Funded Aug 30, 2015Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. The students love the wobble chairs, silly putty, jump rope, foot stool, bilbo chair, and fidget toys. All of the materials you helped fund ensure that my students regulation needs are being meet, allowing them to concentrate on their learning or take a break to get back on track, as needed.
With your support my students have been able to have different seating options that best support their learning needs. I am a firm believer that children need a range of seating options to best meet his or her learning needs. No longer should classrooms be a one size fits all place, with desks and chairs. Children are unique individuals and should be seen as such when attempting to learn and be engaged at school. The wobble chairs have been such a success in my classroom that other teachers in my school have seen the impact the wobble chairs are having on my students and they are running out to buy them for there classrooms. Another great thing about the wobble chairs is that I find myself having to say less to my students, put the chair down on all four legs, because the wobble chairs allow them to sit forward without any sense of danger. The silly putty has also become one of students personal favorites to help them take a break when they need to calm down. As a matter of fact, we have placed it in a bag that travels with the class wherever we go. Students know that they can take a break when they get upset even if they are not in the classroom. It has reduced the number of incidents of my students walking out of specialty classes, such as dance or music, due to frustration.
Again, my students and I, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for letting us know that our classroom matters. Learning can sometimes be challenging for my students because of their varying disabilities. However, having the right supplies is just one way I can help to eliminate the obstacles they must overcome to be successful learners on a day-to-day basis. You have made a difference in twelve wonderful students lives and they are forever grateful.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Marissa
Save A Tree, Use Technology!
Funded Sep 18, 2015Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. The students love the boogie boards and now approach math work with excitement and focus. Many of the children have even asked their moms and dads if they can have a boogie board for home! It makes me feel better to know that we are not wasting trees to do our math problem solving or prewriting planning. As someone who loves the environment, I love saving a tree.
With your support students have been able to do math problems more efficiently, plan for writing, and enjoy free drawing time as a reward for his or her hard work. The boogie boards have increased student engagement during math. Students are able to quickly show his or her work on addition and subtraction problems, making class discussions more fruitful. The students are really focused on doing his or her own solutions to work problems on the board and then comparing or sharing their work with a friend or the rest of the class. The work that is being done on the boogie boards has been helping to move children's thinking around solving word problems.
Again, my students and I, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for letting us know that our classroom matters. Learning can sometimes be challenging for my students because of their varying disabilities. However, having the right supplies is just one way I can help to eliminate the obstacles they must overcome to be successful learners on a day-to-day basis and save a tree in the process. You have made a difference in twelve wonderful students lives and they are forever grateful.”

Basic Supplies Should Not be a Privilege
Funded Aug 21, 2015Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. The students noticed all of the wonderful new supplies immediately on the first day of school and were blow away by your generosity. Many of them asked me, "Where did all of these wonderful things come from?" It was so wonderful to let them know that we have people who take the time to care and look after our classroom. I was humbled to be able to write to my families before school started to let them know that they did not have to dip into their empty pockets to get their child the basic school supplies for school, supplies that should be provided by the school. Unfortunately, stretched thin school budgets leave us asking families for support.
With your support students have been able to have the daily supplies necessary to succeed to the best of their ability in daily learning tasks. We have a new math curriculum this year, EngageNY, and the supplies your provided us with are ensuring students can complete the daily application problems. With the card stock, sheet protectors, and dry erase markers I was able to make number bonds so my students can practice, at home and at school, how to decompose numbers from 1 to 10. All of the post-its have helped to make our classroom anchor charts more vibrant. The catchy colors entice the students to use the charts daily to help enhance their learning during reading and writing.
Again, my students and I, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for letting us know that our classroom matters. Learning can sometimes be challenging for my students because of their varying disabilities.
