  • Interesting Chapter Books

    Funded Apr 17, 2025

Thank you so much for supporting this project for new chapter books. I am excited to diversify our classroom library with a bigger range of levels and books that will peak the interests of my students. I know one of my students, who loves unicorns, will squeal with delight when she sees the Unicorn Diaries! Having books that meet my students needs is of the utmost importance. Thank you giving us the gift of great books!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marissa

  • Winter Gear for Winter Fun!

    Funded Mar 24, 2025

Thank for giving my students new winter gear for recess and field trips too. As you can see from the photos, my students were overjoyed to try out our new gear for the photos.

In addition, the safety vests will ensure all of my students can easily be seen on the various field trips we go on both this year and in the future.

The table wipes and sanitizer came just in time! We were almost out or running low! We always ensure that our tables are clean to discourage any unwatered visitors.

Again, we are so grateful for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marissa

  • Representational Read Aloud

    Funded Mar 26, 2025

Thank you so much for adding diverse and representational books to our classroom read aloud library. Having read alouds that students can see themselves in and make connections adds to deeper and more meaningful conversations.

As we opened the boxes the students were elated to get their hands on the new texts. They read them with a classmate or pointed out different noticing to classmates. The room was in a full buzz of joy.

Again, thank you for your generosity. I know my students are just as appreciative as I am and we can't wait to start reading our new books!”

    With gratitude,

  • Diverse Books that Could get Banned!

    Funded Mar 8, 2025

Thank you for ensuring my students have diverse texts that are representative of themselves and their community. It is so important that students have text that are reflective of their real life experiences. The books in this project will foster deep and meaningful conversations. I can't wait!!

As we opened the box of books the room was full of an energetic buzz as students passed the books around, look at the words, and pictures. Two students even cozied up to read one of the books together. Also, my students were SHOCKED to find out that many of these books were banned or about to be banned. They could not wrap their heads around why!

I can't wait to incorporate these books into our read alouds, this year and for years to come!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marissa

  • Healthy Hydration!

    Funded Jan 24, 2025

Thank you for ensuring that my students have access to clean water in our classroom. As mentioned in the project, many of the water fountains in the school building have been tested and have lead. Therefore, I feel uncomfortable allowing my students to drink from any of the water fountains. However, I want to ensure that they have opportunities for healthy hydration throughout the school day. Having access to water at their tables and the autonomy to drink as needed is an important part of our classroom community. Thank you for ensuring that my students have access to clean and safe water. We appreciate your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

  • Cooking up Some Learning!

    Funded Feb 28, 2025

My students were so excited to see our new cooking supplies, especially the aprons. We already had a chance to try out the aprons and my students were thrilled, no more dirty clothes! Also, they said, "now we are real chefs!"

In addition, we are thrilled to have enough cutting boards, knives, and peelers for everyone. The last time we made veggie chilli the students had to share these tools and some of them had trouble being patient.

As for the pie plates, my students can't wait to make pies. Many of my students have stated that they have never had pie before. Making pies will be a project we embark on before the end of the school year!

Thank you for for supporting our cooking projects. Cooking is something we try to do weekly. It helps build community and joy in our classroom. We are so grateful for your support!”

  • Math Manipulatives for Added Engagement

    Funded Jan 24, 2025

Thank you for ensuring that my students have the manipulatives that they need to be successful with our new math curriculum is very important. My students benefit from opportunities to us manipulatives to help them visualize and conceptualize the mathematical concepts taught. Due to motor planning challenges the nonmagnetic manipulatives we had can cause my students unnecessary frustration and overtake the lesson. These new magnetic pattern block shapes will eliminate any barriers students may have when it comes to placement of the manipulatives on their magnetic trays. Thank you for believing in my students and giving us the tools that we need to be successful.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marissa

I am excited to join the PS 142 community this year teaching a group of 2nd and 3rd grade students who all have IEP's (individualized education plans) Each of my students has a learning disability and has had many failures in their short educational carriers before entering my classroom. As a team, my students and I, have worked tirelessly to build a STRONG learning community where everyone is a key member of the team, respects and encourages one another, and is seen for their strengths and not their challenges. Watching my students blossom into confident learners and role models in our school has been an honor. It is so wonderful to be back in-person with students this year. We greatly appreciate your helping ensuring we have the right tools to be successful learners and reduce barriers.
