  • Representational Read Aloud

    Funded Mar 26, 2025

Thank you so much for ensuring that my students have diverse read alouds that are representational of their experiences or the experiences they observe in and around our community. I can't wait to explore the many important topics in these books and having meaningful conversations.

I can't wait to see my students excitement as we open up our new books. Thank you for giving to my wonderful students. I appreciate your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marissa

  • Winter Gear for Winter Fun!

    Funded Mar 24, 2025

Thank you for ensuring that we have winter gear for our students. Many of my students rely on our hats and gloves when we go on field trips or for recess on cold days. Unfortunately, many of our gloves are getting ripped and tattered so we are in need of new gear. We are delighted to get these new items.

In addition, the safety vest will be perfect for our field trips for the remainder of the school year and the Clorox wipes will ensure that our classroom stays safe for the remainder of the year.

    Thank you for your donation.”

  • Diverse Books that Could get Banned!

    Funded Mar 8, 2025

Thank you for ensuring my students have diverse texts that are representative of themselves and their community. It is so important that students have text that are reflective of their real life experiences. The books in this project will foster deep and meaningful conversations. I can't wait!!

As we opened the box of books the room was full of an energetic buzz as students passed the books around, look at the words, and pictures. Two students even cozied up to read one of the books together. Also, my students were SHOCKED to find out that many of these books were banned or about to be banned. They could not wrap their heads around why!

I can't wait to incorporate these books into our read alouds, this year and for years to come!!”

  • Healthy Hydration!

    Funded Jan 24, 2025

Thank you for ensuring that my students have access to clean water in our classroom. As mentioned in the project, many of the water fountains in the school building have been tested and have lead. Therefore, I feel uncomfortable allowing my students to drink from any of the water fountains. However, I want to ensure that they have opportunities for healthy hydration throughout the school day. Having access to water at their tables and the autonomy to drink as needed is an important part of our classroom community. Thank you for ensuring that my students have access to clean and safe water. We appreciate your generosity!”

  • Cooking up Some Learning!

    Funded Feb 28, 2025

My students were so excited to see our new cooking supplies, especially the aprons. We already had a chance to try out the aprons and my students were thrilled, no more dirty clothes! Also, they said, "now we are real chefs!"

In addition, we are thrilled to have enough cutting boards, knives, and peelers for everyone. The last time we made veggie chilli the students had to share these tools and some of them had trouble being patient.

As for the pie plates, my students can't wait to make pies. Many of my students have stated that they have never had pie before. Making pies will be a project we embark on before the end of the school year!

Thank you for for supporting our cooking projects. Cooking is something we try to do weekly. It helps build community and joy in our classroom. We are so grateful for your support!”

  • Math Manipulatives for Added Engagement

    Funded Jan 24, 2025

Thank you for ensuring that my students have the manipulatives that they need to be successful with our new math curriculum is very important. My students benefit from opportunities to us manipulatives to help them visualize and conceptualize the mathematical concepts taught. Due to motor planning challenges the nonmagnetic manipulatives we had can cause my students unnecessary frustration and overtake the lesson. These new magnetic pattern block shapes will eliminate any barriers students may have when it comes to placement of the manipulatives on their magnetic trays. Thank you for believing in my students and giving us the tools that we need to be successful.”

  • Snacking Our Way Into Learning

    Funded Jan 15, 2025

Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom snacks. My kids were delighted to get new snacks. My students look forward to having snack in our classroom each day and many depend on it. We are excited to replenish the animal crackers because they are a huge hit! When my students don't eat breakfast or don't like the lunch they can always count on our classroom for a snack. I am a firm believer in eliminating barriers in learning. Hunger should not be a barrier that children have to face and as I said in my project you can't learn if you are hungry. Thanks for your generosity!”

  • The Season for Safety

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. All of the supplies from this project will help us during our daily life in the classroom.

I always want to ensure that my students have tissues and that they learn how to blow their nose. We keep multiple boxes of tissues around the room and students understand that they can access the tissues as needed. This works towards building independence toward adapted living skills.

In addition, we have snack in our classroom each day. After eating, students wipe down their tables. This teaches students that it is a shared responsibility to care for our classroom and to keep the critters away!

Thank you for ensuring our classroom continues to be a place where my students can build independence towards life skills and learning about shared responsibilities too. Building a strong classroom community is an essential part of the work that I do each day!”

  • Fabulous Fractions

    Funded Nov 14, 2024

Thank you for helping my classroom to get new math manipulatives. We can't wait to get to our fraction unit so we can use the tiles to help students visualize and understand how to compare fractions to determine if they are equivalent . In addition, the fraction tiles help my students understand how to break up larger rectangles into equal parts too. As we get into the next unit in math I am delighted to know that we will be prepared with the correct materials to help my students. Once again, thank you for your generosity and support of our classroom.”

I am excited to join the PS 142 community this year teaching a group of 2nd and 3rd grade students who all have IEP's (individualized education plans) Each of my students has a learning disability and has had many failures in their short educational carriers before entering my classroom. As a team, my students and I, have worked tirelessly to build a STRONG learning community where everyone is a key member of the team, respects and encourages one another, and is seen for their strengths and not their challenges. Watching my students blossom into confident learners and role models in our school has been an honor. It is so wonderful to be back in-person with students this year. We greatly appreciate your helping ensuring we have the right tools to be successful learners and reduce barriers.
