Funded Nov 4, 2019Thank you so much for your donation of art supplies. The scholars have used the fingerpaint for several lessons. They made Christmas cards for their families, experiment with mixing colors, and imaginative painting.
The scholars were so excited when they saw the supplies. We are the only class in the entire school (preK-5th) who fingerpaints. They felt and still feel very special! We often share our work with the art resource teacher. She cannot possibly teach everything, so she is excited and thankful that I take the time to teach them art concepts.
I plan to use the art materials to make animal puppets during our study of animals, paint spring pictures, and sometimes just have fun! They can now paint a fingerpaint project and cleanup in approximately 45 minutes, which is much quicker than when we first started. They get right to work and I usually do not have discipline issues during this time.
The administration is also very supportive, as they see how it enhances the overall education of our students.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Zeal and one other donor.Books, Books, and more Books!
Funded Dec 6, 2016Thank you so much for your donations to allow us to purchase almost 200 books for my classroom. Many of these books are favorites of my scholars, and they have enjoyed reading them.
I use these books as a classroom lending library. Our principal bought us "Book Buddy Bags," which the scholars use to sign a book out on Monday and return it on Friday. They have a reading log that is kept in the classroom to keep track of the books they read. They have a "classroom library card", which they complete when they check out a book. They are also required to complete a book report form at home and return in on Friday when they return their books. Families have enjoyed spending time with their scholar reading at home and completing the book report form.
My parents are very supportive of this endeavor. I receive text messages if their scholar does not bring home the book on Monday. The opening of the boxes was a big event. Parents came in to assist and read to the scholars. We had a party! This built excitement and support for this project.
Again, thank you so much for providing books to scholars who do not have many books at home to read.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Anonymous Donor and 3 other donors.Teacher Starting Over Again!
Funded Oct 21, 2015My students have had so much fun using the items that were purchased from your generous donations. We use the magnetic chart stand every day for lessons ranging from word study, writing sentences and math problems to drawing to using the flannel board for a schedule for activities. One activity we do almost every day is using the magnetic side to post letters for the students to spell words and do word study. They love manipulating the letters to make new words using known and new sounds. The reading and writing skills of the students have really improved. I could not do this type of word study without the magnetic board as my chalkboards are not magnetic. It is great to have all the storage under the chart stand for items such as books, markers, and the word study materials. The base 10 blocks were very helpful in teaching the students about the base 10 number system. I have never had such an easy time of teaching this very difficult skill. The students thought it was a game to use the blocks to represent numbers.
The students knew that the materials were coming. They were so excited and could hardly wait to open the boxes. They helped me put the chart stand together, which was a feat in itself! They enjoy reading the "Time for Kids" magazines. I often use them as a springboard for writing activities. I save them and use them for unit studies i.e.the magazines about animals are great for our unit on studying animal habitats or grouping the issues for a study on famous women.
I have been using the magazines to help the students learn about animals and their habitats. The photographs are gorgeous. It brings these animals and their habitats to life. I use the downloadable materials from the website to support classroom studies.
These materials have made my professional life and the students' lives so much more interesting. They have contributed to the education of these students by bringing the outside world to them and by allowing them to have hands on experiences with the base 10 blocks and the chart stand. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

Ms. Edick
