Regulating Emotions Through Flexible Seating
Funded Dec 1, 2021First of all, thank you for all the donations that you have made to make this project happen. This was such a wonderful gift for our counseling classroom. Students were so amazed to see the newest addition to our classroom. When students saw the stools, they immediately went up to them and looked at me with sparkly eyes. In addition, we were able to get some other items instead of the original ones because they were not on stock. We got a little sand tray, play doh, Uno game, noise machine and a slime kit among other things. Our students were so excited to start using all of this to regulate their emotions.
During counseling time, students talk about various types of trauma and feelings. Students come into the counseling classroom feeling frustrated, hurt, disappointed, anxious, frustrated, and/or angry. Often times they come to calm down by talking about what triggered that feeling and practicing calming down strategies. Many of the items that were obtained through this project have helped students regulate their emotions. Students love the Ergonomic stools. they are given options of where to sit and they often choose the Ergonomic stool. They have expressed that they are so comfortable. One of my students, who was often anxious created his own calming setup. He used an Ergonomic stool and one of the butterfly stools for his back. He loved it! The sound machine is used as a calming sound for students.
Students used the Playdoh, slime, and sand tray to calm down. While using these items, students often start sharing more things about their home life and/or triggers. One of my students, who was feeling very sad and was crying non stop, calmed down while using the sand tray. He even said that the sand tray was so soothing.
These items will continue to help students calm down during our counseling session. I look forward to continue seeing the social emotional impact that these items will have on my students.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 2 other donors.A Closer Look
Funded Aug 1, 2016We are extremely thankful for this generous contribution! This was such a great gift for the beginning of the new school year. My students and myself were so excited when we found out our project was fully funded. When my students saw the newest addition to our classroom, they were delighted and eager to start using it. The new easel whiteboard is helping students to be on task and it has increased participation.
We use the easel whiteboard daily to learn new concepts. Although this year I have third graders, they have benefited from sitting on the carpet and being closer to me to stay focus. My third graders love to participate throughout any lesson. They enjoy going up to the easel whiteboard to respond to questions or make grammatical and spelling corrections to our morning message. As a class we come up with anchor charts when learning new skills. Students refer back to the charts if they need to. The new easel whiteboard has definitely helped my students be more engaged and therefore has supported them with their learning.
Our new easel whiteboard will continue to contribute to my students' academic success by allowing students to be closer to the information being presented. We will soon start working in small groups, which will allow students to participate even more.”

Meeting Students' Needs
Funded Apr 7, 2016We are extremely grateful on how fast this project got funded! My students' excited little faces said it all when they found out that we had received the new supplies that would help them with their needs. When they actually got to use the supplies, my students were beyond amazed of how effective these were. The new supplies are helping my students to focus and improve their fluency.
My students use the phonics phones on a daily basis to practice their fluency. They love the phonic phones because they are actually able to hear themselves read and they don't get distracted with everyone else. They pretend that they are reading to a love one over the phone, which encourages them even more. These are great tools for those students who are auditory learners, they have definitely benefited from using them. The phonic phones have help my students improve their reading fluency during this trimester.
The privacy partitions have also been of great use in my classroom. My students enjoy and benefit from using the privacy partitions because they are able to focus more. My first graders get distracted easily with anything, so using the privacy partitions helps them a lot, especially during assessments. When they use the privacy partitions, my students are more productive and turn in more quality work because they are able to concentrate.
Our new supplies will continue to help address the different needs of my students. The phonic phones and privacy partitions will definitely be part of my students academic success and will continue to help my future students.”

Bringing a Colorful Carpet into the Classroom
Funded Nov 18, 2015Thank you for your wonderful contribution! It was such a wonderful holiday gift for our classroom. I still can't believe that my first project was funded! I was delighted to see my students' little faces brightened as they walked in into the classroom in the morning and saw that we had a new, colorful carpet. My students were extremely joyous to see that our classroom finally had a carpet that would make our morning meetings and carpet time more exciting.
We are definitely enjoying our new carpet. Each student now has their own place (square) in the carpet during carpet time, which makes the lessons run smoothly and learning more accessible. During carpet time, we do a lot of "think, pair, share". This encourages communication and collaboration among the classroom.
Our morning meetings are so much fun with this new carpet. My students enjoy our morning meetings because they get to build a sense of community. They have the opportunity to greet each other in different languages to provide self confidence and cultural awareness. During our morning meetings we also discuss different social topics.
Our new, colorful carpet will continue to brighten our classroom, the place were students spend most of their day and where learning, social interaction, and creativity takes place.”
