  • I Want To Be Entertained When I Read!

    Funded Dec 15, 2016

It is with great gratitude and appreciation that I submit this impact letter to you for your kindness and willingness to give, toward I Want to be Entertained When I Read! With the books that were donated, we have been able to broaden our horizons through literature and hold discussions on how the books reflect cultural tolerance. It has been a positive influence that they have access to everyday and the students are building and developing a respect and understanding of their cultures.

Having access to multicultural literature has empowered my students to have positive attitudes towards diversity and tolerance, and that it is okay for others to be different from what they are used to! That is priceless in the world we live in today. They will one day be respectful and character minded citizens of this world, that have sensitivity and tolerance for all people.

Again, thank you for your donation. Our children's faces lit up when books arrived! They beg me every day to switch out their books. This is also gaining their love for reading. We thank you that our students have an abundance in school, even though that may not be the case elsewhere.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Coronel

  • School Spirit

    Funded Mar 6, 2018

It is with great gratitude and appreciation that I submit this impact letter to you for your kindness and willingness to give, toward this School Spirit project! With shirts, shorts, and shoes that were donated, we have been able to feel like a real cheer team and be able to raise school spirit. It is so beautiful to make our students feel welcomed and feel good to come to school, and this project helps emphasize that school is a safe and welcoming space.

Having access to these supplies has helped my students to have positive attitudes towards our school, and enjoy coming to school! That is a priceless lesson to teach our 6th-12th graders that school is a fun and safe place to be and should be happy to be here.

Again, thank you for your donation. Our students face lit up when Bows and other stuff arrived! They beg me to wear our new stuff everyday to school. These donations are also gaining their love for coming to school. We thank you that our students have now have this new found school spirit in are a school that is a spark from our cheer team.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Coronel

  • Active Reading for Active Students!

    Funded Dec 18, 2015

My students have been reading this book over the last couple of weeks and they are just loving it! We're using the story to teach grammar and structured reading and writing. My students are all behind grade level in their reading abilities, but they're just eating this story up! It's so relevant to so many of their lives and it's so great to see them actually want to read.

I am hoping to keep this enthusiasm alive and kicking and bring more books like this one into our classroom. It is so important they continue reading and foster a love of learning.

Thank you for donating to my students and investing in their futures!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Coronel

  • LIFE ESSENTIAL Warmth This Winter!

    Funded Jan 27, 2016

My students were so excited to receive this gift! Many of them lack the basic necessities like blankets and they were very humbled by this gesture.

One of my students told me he had to share the blanket he currently uses with his baby brother, so this was going to make a huge impact on his ability to keep warm and get a good night's sleep. He now has a blanket all to himself! There were several other stories very similar to this.

These life essential items brought huge joy and a lot of smiles to my classroom today! Thank you for investing in my students and impacting their lives so greatly!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Coronel

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose.org Team.
Our school is a Title I school located in an area that is deeply impacted by a low socio-economic status. The neighborhood my students live in exposes them to issues such as drugs, gangs, violence, crime, as well as hunger and poverty, on a daily basis. The students that come through my classroom are reading below grade level and need intensive intervention. Because of the hardships they face in their daily lives, sometimes helping them see how important it is to be able to read proficiently is difficult. I am constantly looking for new texts that will engage them, and draw them into the lesson, without it having to be a power struggle.
