  • Science and Art Materials

    Funded Nov 27, 2023

Thanks so much! We are going to have a great year of science lessons in room 16!

We are also ready for homemade Christmas Ornaments.

The gift cards used to purchase these were donated by my “anonymous”’monthly donor, and I truly appreciate the peace of mind, knowing I won’t have to buy these items as needed.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Atwell

  • Fun with Dash

    Funded Oct 29, 2022

My students were so excited to unpack our new DASH robots! With just a few basic coding lessons, my students were able to start their own projects.

Using Scratch as a platform, my students were able to create sprite characters and tell their own narratives visually.

Their interest has led to the possibility of an after school coding club this year!

Thank you so much for donating to my project and allowing my students to have this experience with coding! The students of room 16 will continue to benefit from this experience for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Atwell

  • Softball in the Sun

    Funded May 29, 2023

We are looking forward to some softball in the sun! Thank you so much for helping to make this happen for my students!

We have been looking forward to inviting other classes to join us, practicing some essential skills, and working together as a team!

    We appreciate your kind generosity.”

  • Dash's Garden

    Funded Oct 31, 2022

Thank you so much for your donations!

We have spent the spring planting and nurturing our new seedlings. All of the students got to participate in assembling our planters and green house, and planting.

We took our project one step further with a subsequent worm composting project, that will ensure we have soil for future seasons.

My students have really enjoyed the entire experience, and it will continue to grow with next year's participants.

I appreciate your support in bringing this dream to fruition.”

  • School Composting Project: Responsible Waste Management and Life Sciences

    Funded Apr 23, 2023

Thank you for all of the gift cards from private donors, and for the matching funds from GM. This allowed me to create and fully fund this project in time to be incorporated into our Spring gardening program at school!

I believe this project will have a big impact on my students, and the way they view composting and waste management.”

  • Fostering a Love for Reading with "Hello Universe"

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

It has been great to have copies of this book for all students. They can follow along as others read aloud, read silently before discussion, or even read chapters for homework.

This book is new to me as well. It is Newberry Award Winner and the students are really enjoying it!

Another great revelation for me was that the main character in this book is Filipino, which has really resonated with my 3 students of that culture who have not had the experience of seeing a main character and family that they can relate to in such a way.

Thank you so much for helping to give my students this novel study experience!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Atwell

This classroom project was brought to life by Bill Gates and one other donor.
  • All Students Have Fun Coding

    Funded Sep 10, 2022

My students are so excited about our Geometry Unit! They know that when they learn angles they will have all the knowledge they need to confidently and skillfully navigate our Dash robots.

Most importantly, it is integrated into full class curriculum because of your generous donations. I now have an adequate number of robots to create smaller student groups, ensuring more student involvement.

Your donation has had a big impact on these, and all of my future students. Thank you so much!

  • At-Home STEAM Engineering Design Kits

    Funded Nov 6, 2020

My students are so excited to use the materials in their Engineering Design Kits.

We use the contents daily. We build models with construction paper, legos and playdough. All students now have at home supplies for art and science lessons. We have completed one of the three science projects, for which I was able to provide materials. Each kit also included a jumprope for exercise videos that I provide weekly.

These kits have allowed me to keep virtual lessons engaging. The materials also ensure that ALL sudents have what is necessary to complete projects at home.

The students were so excited to recieve their kits at our February distribution. It gave us the little boost we needed to get through these spring months with new opportunities for learning. Your donations have helped us through this difficult year by bringing some of the materials usually offered in the classroom to the students homes.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Atwell

  • Essential Technology Resources

    Funded Jan 13, 2016

I am writing to thank you again for your contribution to my project and to tell you about the impact it has made in my classroom. My students now have the option to independently access one of several interactive learning tools on our classroom iPads, and they have been taking full advantage of the opportunity.

Accessing learning tools on the iPads is beneficial for two main reasons. The first is that the learning tools my students are using, such as ST Math, Ticket to Read, and Lexia Reading, differentiate material for each student, providing remedial or more challenging material depending on the students' ease and proficiency. The iPads have especially benefited my "at-risk" students who require more practice with subjects already taught and moved on from.

The second reason is the technological aspect of the learning. Students take on responsibilities of usernames and passwords and learn to interact with different forms of technology (word processing programs, applications, tablets, lap tops, desktops, etc.). In addition there is the visual aspect involved in learning, involving concrete examples of mathematical concepts and "real world" scenarios which have become both abundant and more relevant to students than traditional learning tools.

From the bottom of our hearts, I, and the students of room 15, would like to thank you for your contribution and the impact is has had on our classroom environment.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Atwell
