We currently have four iPads in our classroom for 25 students to use. If we had more tablets, I would be able to divide my students into smaller groups for cooperative research-based learning. They would be able to research ideas and topics that interest them.
This project would help my students by providing technology that they can use to play classroom review games, locate information, read e-books, as well as participate in online learning opportunities or games. They would be able to more efficiently collaborate with their group and to better understand a concept if there were fewer students using each device.
The tablets would allow my students to demonstrate what they have learned by using Kahoot to review the content they have learned. These reviews consist of questions that are created by me, that are presented to students in real-time, creating a social, fun and game like learning environment. Additionally, there are many sites that allow my students to access e-books they can read online. This can provide them with a wealth of literature that, otherwise, may not be available to them. Big Universe is an excellent example. Students can browse books by topic, title, author, or level of difficulty. They are able to save books so they can read them over and over. I can also assign them books that I think they would find interesting, or that would reinforce a topic that we are discussing. Furthermore, tablets would make a program that we are already using, called i-Ready, easier to access. This program provides on going progress monitoring that pinpoints each student's need in math and reading, and also provides individualized instruction based on those needs.
Having additional tablets in my classroom will help my students work collaboratively and become 21st century learners.
