Headphones for Online Testing
Funded Apr 27, 2023Our whole special ed program is now fully supported in terms of oral support for students thanks to you!
We've had headphones that over time have pretty much disintegrated or the kids have outgrown their sizes. This full bin of headphones will fit them again and cover every student who requires printed material to be read to them orally. Thank you for filling our accommodations tub again.
Our whole team wishes you a marvelous end to your summer and a joyous fall season. Your donation will benefit kids on our campus for a very long time.”

Bringing Up Tech
Funded Nov 29, 2022the teachers and students in the special education classes struggle for words to convey the joy we have from your gifts. Children with special needs do not have the patience that their non-disabled peers often have, and that is quickly seen when technology does not work well. While they do not spend a large quantity of time on computers and iPads, they are especially treasured for independent practice and as rewards. These new devices will ensure that each student has technology that fulfills that need.
Your support of special needs students is received with tremendous gratitude. There are many things that demand and beg for our attention and our treasure at this time of year. Thank you dearly for making our students a priority in your giving.”

Funded Nov 29, 2022We received our first shipment of new phonics activities yesterday. It was especially rewarding to get to open brand new things after a week of assessments in grades 3,4,and 5. I always get puzzled stares from children when I tell them that someone from the neighborhood bought these for us! Presents at unexpected times is such a lesson in giving for the good of others.
I felt like one of the kids when I unwrapped small toys for each letter of the alphabet. It took us a full hour to go through each item and talk about letter sounds and what vowel they hear when they say it. So Thrilling for all of us!
Thank you sincerely for touching our week, and for the many gifts that will help our students to grow in learning.”

Funded Jul 15, 2022who thought something like writing with chalk and chalkboards could be thought of as novel?? It used to be the norm for an old teacher like me. Using new utensils and sitting on the floor to work make simple tasks more fun for kids.
Thank you so much for revitalizing our room again with floor trays, bright stools, brand new markers, and a ton of chalk for outdoor writing! I love the first time I get to show them something that was purchased just for them. It is a great life lesson to explain to kids that there are people in our community that will give simply because they care for others.
It's even more impactful when they may never even meet them; Giving for the sheer joy of SHARING.
Thank you being that lesson in my room this month,”

Healthy Body and Mind
Funded Feb 9, 2022We have received all of our packages now and we are set for the rest of the school year. Thank you for funding a great variety of healthy snacks and drinks for the Life Skills, PALS classes, and for use during our testing sessions. Breaks with a good snack helps them to regain focus and keep going.
The multicultural materials are already making story time and art more exciting because a great number of our students in these two rooms are Hispanic or African American. The characters in the books were immediately recognizable as different than so many of the books in our classroom library. Multiple browns and tans in our crayon tubs are making the kids really compare them to themselves and others. The first time we pull out a darker brown Band-aid is sure to make the kids double-take. We are so used to the pale latex that we always have on hand! I thought the neon color Band-aids were neat when they came out, but this frankly is even more exciting!
You are making a splash in our classes.”

Funded Dec 8, 2021I got my first look at the kids' reaction to chapter books that we can read together. We have only just finished our first one, Charlotte's Web; they are besides themselves when they saw it among the new library you funded. We have some outstanding new options from this collection.
I look forward to when the weekly reader magazines come. Those have current event articles that are so fun for kids to learn and think about. It's another tool to make reading relevant to everyday life.
Thank you for making this possible for our resource room. Getting kids excited about a good story is essential to making them life long readers.
Blessings to you,

My Learning Briefcase
Funded Nov 13, 2021My pictures cannot capture the pure excitement of the kids when I showed them the collection of things they will have in their classroom. I had them assemble the kit for their grade level and although they were a little overwhelmed by the number of things in there to use, They will be proud to use it for all their homework tasks this year!
The teachers that got them in their rooms were taken aback by how complete and very professional it looks too. This project is inspiring more teachers to try using Donors Choose for their class's needs.
Thank you for making this such a successful project. This will make a huge impact in our school!!”

Funded Oct 19, 2021The moment our boxes arrived, the air filter and humidifier were put to work. The a/c system is often unreliable and when it is having trouble, our special ed rooms get stuffy and very uncomfortable. Our autistic students, and one with breathing issues, cannot abide by stale or smelly air. These have been a needed addition to the rooms.
Our one student in a wheelchair this year needs to be in different positions multiple times per day, and we had not found a soft chair that allows him to recline without falling sideways. The bean bag and the neck pillow have solved this for him. We knew they existed, but Donors Choose is the best and fastest way for us to get additional things for our LIfe Skills and autism classes. Public schools do not purchase things quickly...much red tape.
Our kids are breathing easier and more comfortably, therefore THEY ARE LEARNING BETTER. Thanks to you!”

Funded Sep 23, 2021the variety of materials that we received from your donations are already being put into use. My youngest group loved the letter formation building kit. Look at the pictures I've uploaded! That will be a fun way to reinforce proper writing.
Organization as well as sensory breaks are really needed and the bins, individual pockets, and the bubble fish tank are captivating and highly motivating!
They are making strides because of you. Thank you so very much for supporting our kids with extra needs.”

Funded Aug 18, 2021I have already made a number of supports visuals for my students with autism and that is giving them such comfort. It shows them what's coming next in their day and to finish tasks before playing. What a comfort for the teachers as well!
The organizational tote boxes are a godsend!! The classroom teachers have asked me for several more as other students will benefit from the same tools. I actually talked another teacher into making a donors choose project for her own class.
You are impacting so many people with the donation for these materials. We are all so excited at the quick response that the kids have had to them.
Thank you so very much and blessings to you,”
