  • Butterflies and Sensory Fidgets to Teach Insect Life Cycles

    Funded Mar 31, 2025

Thank you for your donation! As Spring is getting warmer here in New York, I feel this is a perfect time of year to get caterpillars that will turn into butterflies. My students will observe and learn so much from watching these live animals change and grow. I’m looking forward to seeing my students engaged in learning about insect life cycles with these wonderful materials.”

Thank you for donating to my classroom to support me and my students! We are very excited to know that someone cares for our educational and emotional needs as we are learning.

These snacks and beverages will be an excellent way to keep my students hydrated and motivated to learn!”

  • Build Skills for Counting and Problem-Solving With Board Games

    Funded Sep 15, 2024

These games and activities provided so much for my students to use for learning numbers, counting, patterns, taking turns, and fine motor skills. Students liked to balance beans on Spill the Beans and the colorful beans are great for sorting and counting. The game Trouble is fun for kids and moving the pieces on the board will reinforce basic counting skills. Students love to pop the die bubble on their turn. Scrabble was a bit above level for many of my students and we used the wood letter squares to spell names and words. The classic game of Connect Four taught about taking turns and counting the pieces, as well as encouraging close observation as students watched to see what would be the next move. The colorful building blocks were used to build towers to be knocked down and built again. Students enjoy the giant checkers, playing with the checkers on the carpet and making patterns on the cloth board.

These games were a great way for students to practice counting and learning numbers.”

  • Special Needs Students Will Self-regulate Emotions and Feelings

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

My students were affected in many ways by these materials. Higher functioning students were motivated to complete tasks to use kinetic sand with many tools, molds and cups. Another item called Pluffle is a colorful, blue-green material for students to search through for ocean creatures. My students were able to use water beads, putting their hands in a container of the slippery small orbs, searching for small toys. Students are soothed and calmed by the feeling of the water beads.

Students were fascinated with the tiny sticker printer which printed a sticker with the student's picture. Students are calmed by stroking the colorful gold and black sequin fabric, smoothing it and flipping the colors back and forth.

There were so many items in this project that it had a great impact on student behavior and also provided sensory items that calmed students who were upset or stressed.”

  • Bright Color Ink for Special Needs Picture Enhanced Communication Symbols

    Funded Mar 7, 2023

My special needs students use pictures and symbols in the classroom to reinforce the lessons. Students are able to look at photographs of items and having good printing paper, and having good color ink, makes the pictures clear and vibrant.

My students read the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and used colorful sequencing cards to retell this story. The bright pictures of Goldilocks helped students remember the story. Students enjoyed seeing the pictures of the bears, the chairs, and the porridge and using the pictures to sequence the story events.

    Thank you for your support.”

  • Special Needs Musicians Shake Rattle Toll Hand Bells and Shakers

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

When my students first saw the handbells, they were very excited to play music. Since many of the students had been taught to use a video program to play the bells by colors instead of notes, the students were able to play the songs fairly well. With more practice, students can work together to make beautiful music with the handbells. Using the handbells to make music is fostering cooperation among the students. Students enjoy working together to make lovely music with the handbells. The shaker eggs are allowing my lower level students to learn about rhythm and percussion instruments.

Thank you for giving these great resources to me and my students!”

  • Bright Color Ink for Special Needs Communication Boards

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

My students need bright colors and clear pictures for schedules in school. Students use picture enhanced communication in the classroom during lessons and during transitions between activities. Some of my students are not verbal and the colorful pictures and symbols are used to engage the students in lessons and activities. Students are able to use the picture symbols to respond and participate during lessons. When symbols or drawings are not enough to describe an object or activity, photographs can be used instead, such as during snack time when students can point to pictures of cookies or chips to choose which snacks they want to eat.

Thank you for supporting my students in my classroom.”

  • Special Needs Students Need Microwave to Warm Up Foods

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

When students arrive at school in the morning, most of them will grab a breakfast to eat. The breakfast might be muffins, bagels, waffles, or pancakes, and cereal and milk is also offered each day. Most of the foods are not warmed up and often the waffles and pancakes are almost frozen. Since I was unable to get a microwave from the vendor that I had chosen for my project, I selected toasters for the students to heat up the waffles, pancakes and bagels.

Students were happy to see the toasters. Students learned how to use a toaster.

The toasters are used every day to warm up breakfast foods and students are eating more of these breakfast items, because they are more delicious when the food is warm.

Thank you for your generous donation.”

  • Digital Camera for Special Needs Classroom

    Funded Aug 6, 2022

My students were very excited to take photographs with this digital camera. This digital camera was very easy for my students to use. This technology was useful for this lesson because the device was only used to take pictures and videos.

Students focused on taking pictures, then students learned about captioning the pictures. Before the Thanksgiving break, students photographed the special lunch in the cafeteria. When we returned to school, students reviewed the photographs and remembered the big lunch that everyone shared that day.

Students wrote captions to describe what was going on and who was in the photographs. Students learned that captions can have a lot of information or just a little information.”

  • Special Needs High School Students Will Weave Antibullying Hats

    Funded Apr 7, 2022

The looms to make hats were not available so I used the donations to support sewing lessons, including storage to organize the materials.

My special needs high school students learned how to sew. The students learned to thread a needle using threaders to get the thread into the eye of the sewing needle. Students sorted buttons into two piles: buttons with four holes and buttons with two holes. They learned how to sew on a button that has two holes. Students learned how to make a knot in the thread and secure the thread into the fabric so that it wouldn't unravel. Student sewed buttons onto a piece of felt which I cut into the shape of a tie. Students were able to show their gratitude to their parents and guardians using the greeting card which was decorated with their sewing.”

Music is magic! My elementary special education students are grades K to 5, which include students with autism, learning disabilities, low-functioning students, mental retardation and severely emotionally disturbed children. Students are thrilled and engaged with the experiences of learning with music. There are so many entry points to learn using music, singing, instruments, and dance. My students have a broad range of learning levels and learning styles, and music reaches them very deeply and in many different ways.
