Our classroom needs a lot of TLC to help bring it into the 21st Century. One way of doing this is by creating the right environment for student learning. First, with new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently and develop a love of reading. By having a constructive classroom library, it will give students access to books on a daily basis that strikes their interests. This can be done by having a library that houses different genres of books to help our students gain knowledge of story structure, which will in turn teach our students how to write books of their own. We also want our classroom library to be comfortable as well. By having a mat and bean bags, students will be able to read comfortably for longer periods of time to help them build stamina while reading. Secondly, our math area is another place in our room in need of some attention. The ten frames and unifex cubes will help our students have access to the tools they need to help them with counting and understanding how numbers work. Lastly, in our daily schedule we have a writing block where students practice their writing skills to become authors. Students are taught the steps and strategies needed to become an avid writer. Writing is an important tool to help students express themselves through the written word. When creating a published piece of work students need to learn how to type and print their published piece. In having access to a classroom printer, our students can easily print their work and create awesome stories for others to read.
