Our students attend a school where 98% of families are economically disadvantaged and receive free or reduced lunch. The challenges that face our students are socioeconomic as well as linguistic. Proper literacy instruction is essential to our students' lives so that they may gain social mobility and become productive citizens. Unfortunately, some of our students read below grade level and have not experienced the joys of reading. However, while these statistics paint a negative portrait of the condition of our students, our students are eager to learn and always put their best foot forward.
