Financial Literacy, Path to My Future

Funded Oct 8, 2020

I was very excited when I found out that this project became fully funded on October 8, 2020. I shared the great news with my students who were even more excited than I was. Unfortunately, at that time school was closed and all instruction was done virtually.

Even though our interaction was fully virtual, my students and I discussed the purpose of this project. We talked about careers in Science (since I am their Science teacher) and brainstormed on possible roadblocks in pursuing those careers. Majority of their responses centered on finances. That made this project really relevant for my students.

Financial literacy is about ensuring that a child is educated on the best way to manage finances. This is a way of securing their future. This is because they will be able to learn how to manage money in all ways possible. This helps them spend wisely at all times.

My students then decided on a career, researched about it, looked up the cost such as tuition, and other expenses. They started making a table of how much they need to save, and in what ways they can save.

In February 2021, some of my students returned to the classroom. Those without devices or those whose devices need repair were able to use the iPad that you so generously funded.

Thank you so very much for funding not only this project, but the many others you have been so generous with.

Once again, thank you and more power to all of you!”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Hendon
