And the Winner is...
Funded Oct 3, 2024I would like to extend a big THANK YOU for supporting our Louisiana Young Reader's Choice Book Giveaway. Every Friday I draw 2 5th grade names and the winners get to come to the library and pick out which Louisiana Young Reader's Choice book they would like to have. This has generated a lot of interest in the books and the students are reading their hearts out. We will have a voting party at the end of February and the students will get to vote on their favorite LYRC book they read.
We are so very thankful for your generous donation.”

This classroom project was brought to life by SONIC Foundation and one other donor.Readers Are Leaders
Funded Sep 19, 2023As our books began arriving the students could not wait to have them processed for check out. I had been talking about the Louisiana Young Reader's Choice 2023-2024 book list and showing book trailers to get them excited about reading.
I am pleased to inform you the 2nd - 5th graders have been checking out the books and taking the Accelerated Reading quiz so they can receive an invitation to our LYRC party in February. The kindergarten and 1st graders have also been enjoying the read alouds and discussions we have during library time.
In closing I would like to once again thank you for your generous donation. If it weren't for businesses like you, we would not have been able to participate in the Louisiana Young Reader's Choice program this school year.”

Mrs. Hall
Battle of the Books
Funded Nov 18, 2021Our Battle of the Books team is working hard to read all 10 titles. They are learning how to determine the plot, theme, and author's purpose. They have also been learning how to write a book review and make a book trailer video.
By generously funding our project there are now enough books for our Battle of the Books team members to read and discuss the same book. They are able to break away in groups to compare notes and help each other understand all the story elements of their book.
We are getting very excited about our upcoming battle and feel very confident in our ability to compete with the other schools in Caddo Parish and it is all thanks to you and your generous donation.”

Littles Love Our Library
Funded Sep 6, 2021Thank you so very much for funding my project, "Littles Love the Library". I am currently redecorating a special room for the lower elementary students. They love the moon lamp and the hammocks for the stuffed animals. I haven't yet gotten all the posters hung but I can't wait to see what the room looks like when I am finished. For the upper elementary, the magnetic hooks are great to hang library cards and they love the large READ letters. The computer stand for my Chromebook is great. Your generous donation means a lot to me and my students.”

Making Connections to the Real World
Funded Jan 29, 2020Thank you so very much for funding my Scholastic News project. I now give enriched, engaging lessons to Pre-K, Kindergarten, and first grade students. They enjoy both the print copy and the online copies. During these lessons students are able to confer with each other and use companion nonfiction books to compliment the lessons. On the days we use the Chromebooks to access the digital copies, they listen to the article, watch the videos, and play the games that accompany each issue. Scholastic News is a great way to keep students engaged while learning about current events and the world around them.”

Research Readiness
Funded Mar 27, 2018On behalf of all my students and myself, we would like to thank you for funding our project "Research Readiness". The new furniture is truly a blessing. Now that we have different colored chairs, I can group my students by chair color (8 in a group) or table (4 in a group). I also had enough funds to purchase 4 tablets and tablet stands. When the students come to the library during flex time they sign in on the tablets. I also let groups of 4 explore our online databases if they exhibit good behavior during library time.
When the tables first arrived the students were so excited. We used to have big bulky tables that took up a lot of floor space. The new tables are smaller with casters so we are able to move them easily and the students have more room to move around. We absolutely love the colorful new chairs. The students were super excited to have chairs that are not too big and fit under the tables perfectly. I love them because they add happiness to our library.
We are beginning our grade level research projects on October 22. The students have chosen their topics and are looking forward to working together at our beautiful new tables.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Ripple.Giddy for Google
Funded Dec 20, 2016Our Chromebooks and charging cart arrived shortly after we returned from Christmas break. Not only were the students giddy with excitement, our principal, Mr. Williams, was excited as well. It took a couple of weeks to get them all set up but the look on my students' faces the first time they walked into the library and saw the Chromebooks on their tables was priceless.
For the first time ever, I was able to put students on their own device and actually teach them how to properly access the resources on our library webpage. I modeled while the students followed along. The third through fifth grade explored Worldbook Online, the first and second grade explored Pebble Go and Tumblebooks, and Kindergarten play Keyboard Zoo to familiarize themselves with the placement of letters on the keyboard. The technology lesson for all grade levels ran much more smoothly and the students really enjoyed working on the smaller Chromebooks and not having to share.
Thank you so very much for funding our project. I'm looking forward to more meaningful technology lessons as my students become more adept at using the Chromebooks”

Library Literacy
Funded Dec 18, 2015The supply resources that were provided by funding my project are being used to aid students in their researching, drafting, and writing skills. We are currently working on a research project where upper elementary students chose a nonfiction book on a famous American of their choice. The have read the book and have taken notes using the paper and highlighters. The students are now creating a Bio poster about their person.
The books that were funded: Boris Gets a Lizard, Boris for the Win, Spooky Friends, and Shark in the Library will be used during lessons with my younger students.
My Pre-K and Kindergarten classes were so excited to see the new lime green rocking chair. My older students were excited as well because they thought it was bought for them. So now, I use the rocking chair as a class management tool for the older students. I choose one student per class period that is allowed to read their library book while sitting in the rocker.
Lastly, I will be teaching a lesson to 1st & 2nd graders about Ocean animals. I will read Shark in the Library and we will discuss predators and prey in the ocean and students will illustrate an ocean scene.
I would like to thank all of my donors for making my project a reality.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hall
