• We Need Little Books For Little Readers!

  Thank you for all your donations! Our books arrived two days ago, and we're thrilled! My students were looking in the book box oohing and aahing! I had to tell them they're not ready for check out yet, but soon. I need to have them processed.

  These books will be a real boost for our younger readers, and lower older readers. Great text and graphics. Bad Kitty books are always a big hit! Since we never have enough funding for all the books we need this is a treat!

• Help Us Find Books with Dividers and More!

  Thank you so much for helping fund this grant! I'm really excited to know that our older fiction readers will be able to find the books they want easier and faster. I'm always multitasking, checking out books, helping students, etc. so time is very limited here. Any library tools to ease their frustration is very much appreciated. It will help me find things faster too! I have the new dividers up and the labels on. These dividers will certainly reinforce doing a book search by the author's last name, one of those basic things in library. I LOVE these dividers!!!

• Let's Roll in the Library With a Truck! A Book Truck!!!

  I just received my book truck this week! It's really exciting to have a new one, and the wheels actually roll! It's a lighter weight cart which makes it much easier to roll, a nice size, and black as sadly they ran out of blue. I'll add some fun washi tape, it will look nice and pretty, and my charts for reading levels will be added! It took several tries to finally get one funded, so I am especially grateful for your help with this grant!!! We'll be able to move the cart around easily and get my work done.

• We'd Love Soft Seating For Little Ones!

  Thank you so much for your generous gift of new seating!!! While my students were sad to say goodbye to the old, worn out beanbags they LOVE the new chairs! They can stretch out and read, relax and enjoy the library. The new chairs arrived and I'm really impressed with the thick seats and backs, also adjustable. The covers also zip off for easy cleaning, a big bonus! Our students have so much on their plates that being able to snuggle up with a good book seems like a luxury, but it shouldn't be.

• Help Us Get Up To STEAM In Our Library!!!

  I can't tell you how excited my students are now that we are starting to use some of our new STEAM activity components! We're starting simple, with Origami paper folding. I started this week with 5th and 6th grade, and as the photos show, they were really engaged! Having the new books and origami paper gives us the chance to do something really different. It's amazing how much time and energy the kids put into it, and they shared with their classroom teachers how much fun they had! Soon we'll display some of them in the hall for others to see. Next, we'll start a bookmark making station, then super snow, then clay figures. Oh the possibilities!!! Happy holidays!!!”

• We're.... Fading.... Away.... Need Printer Ink!!!

  I just received our box of new cartridges yesterday! School starts Monday, and it's a great way to start the year! Every year I print out new posters, signs and more. Color brings a spark to an older space. Our library may be small but I try to fill it with color and enthusiasm. This year I had found some wonderful, inspiring, free posters to print, with fun subway art. Knowing I had the printer fully stocked I was able to print away! Having new signs and posters gets students thinking, and they enjoy the space much more. We also have students who print special projects and I always tell them where the printer and ink came from. • Wimpy Kids Rule!

  I received our new Wimpy Kids books yesterday and my students and I are very excited!!! I've been telling our classes they were on the way, and there was lots of high fives and clapping. These books are so popular that new copies will really be a great asset here. When I was unpacking them some students were lined up near my hall door, and I held them up and whispered "new books" and they smiled when they saw the titles. Getting some kids to read anything can be a struggle, but not with these titles.

• Our Tiny Library Needs A Truck! A Book Truck!!!

  I am so happy to have our new, small book truck (so happy, I wrote a grant for a full size one)! I went thru our fairy tale section, as well as high-interest fiction and put it all together. Our youngest readers, and ELL students, now have an easily accessible cart to find books on. We started using it last week, and the kids LOVE it! I added a little sign and it works :)

  It's so cute too! I attached some books care posters on the sides, also from DC. The wheels roll easily, so I can also move it as needed. Wonderful in a small space!

• We Need Beloved Birthday Books, Junie B.!

  Thank you so much for our new birthday books! They came this week, and I'm giving them away already. I always put labels inside the books that say "These Birthday Books Were Donated From DonorsChoose.org who support public school students." I like to give credit where credit is due!

  Some years I really have trouble finding enough books to give away. It's sad, but I've always been able to stretch things out with the books we've received from DonorsChoose. Giving books away really is the most favorite part of my job. Having kids get excited and say "I get a brand new book?" just delights me. They go away with a huge smile and a new book. What more can I say? THANK YOU!!!”

• We Love Dr. Seuss and He's Falling Apart!

  Thank you so much for your generous donations! Our students are SO excited having the new Dr. Seuss (and other titles) in our library. The photos I took really say it all. Some were new titles the kids had never seen before, and the others are replacing our really worn-out, old copies. New books are always appreciated, but when it's one of the most well-loved series, it's SUPER exciting!
