These texts will become part of our daily reading mini-lessons that involve all of the students in my classroom. A reading mini-lesson is a concise and focused lesson on any aspect of effective reading that is important for children to explicitly understand. The lessons build on all of the child's literacy experiences, make one important understanding visible, and hold the children accountable for applying it consistently in their own reading. It is my goal to foster a literary community through shared language as well as build academic vocabulary by using these rich and authentic mentor texts! These interactive, high-quality mentor texts will engage all of the students with the hopes of fostering a lifelong love for literature.
