  • Printer, Paper, Pencils Oh My!!

    Funded Mar 17, 2025

This is so very exciting!! My scholars will be be over the moon to know that we can now print their "Painted Essays" (which are colorful writing pieces. In addition, we were in such a need for paper and pencils. We will get these items just in time for the upcoming Family Game Night and Science Fair. Last, the colored pencils always allow the students to apply color to their works of art in any subject area. Thank you so very much!!”

  • Readers on the Roll!

    Funded Sep 30, 2024

Thank you so very much for bringing a mobile, library cart to our class. It has helped us be more organized, less distracted, and even allows us to target certain topics.

When I requested this rolling library cart, I had no idea the impact it would have in my class. I thought it could definitely bring more literature to students because we could move it around the room and we could adjust bins to reflect different topics. We have been able to provide bins related to literacy topics we are studying (which is currently frogs). There is a bin for our Black History Month books and a bin for the work we do in small groups.

As we have noticed, adding bins will not only help us to remain organized but allow materials to accessible. Now students are eager to select books and materials to support their learning. Thank you so very much!!”

  • Fun with Fiber Arts!

    Funded May 11, 2024

We are definitely having FUN with Fiber Arts! The proof is in the sign-in sheets (the number of participants grow each week) and the creativity in their projects!

This project helped to build more inventory of fabric, fusible fleece, and replace sewing needles on the hardworking sewing machines. Adding to student creativity were zippers, new ways to store bobbins, and batting for novice quilters.

Each week, students leave with the question "what are we making next week?" They have already caught the creative bug. We hope to continue making projects through the end of the year and beyond. Thank you so very much!”

  • Fiber Arts Frenzy!

    Funded Apr 22, 2024

The funding of this project has sure caused a Frenzy of Fiber Artists at our school! Each week more students show up and are interested in learning the craft of sewing. The materials in this project inlcuded stabilizer, webbing, snaps and split rings which allow the artists to extend their creativity.

Most scholars had never even touched a sewing machine before. We started with easier projects early so they would learn to just sew a straight line. Each week, we add on a new skill such as ironing fusible fleece onto fabric, adding split ring hardware, or using webbing for straps on a tote bag.

It is a joy for me to see the faces of the creatives as they make new projects but is even better is the feedback we have gotten from families and friends who receive the items the group has sewn. One student aspires to be a fashion designer! Thank you so very much!!”

  • Fiber Arts with our Friends!

    Funded Mar 27, 2024

The funding of this project was so amazing!! It allowed me to share my love of sewing with students. We had begun to hand sew and now had the ability to use a sewing machine to construct new projects.

EVERYTHING we needed to be creatives was included in this project. We began by cutting the fabric into the sizes needed. Next, we ironed wrinkled material and prepared it for sewing. Last, we sewed our creations using the new sewing machine.

We have created corner bookmarks, corner bookmarks and more. We look forward to our meetings to determine what the next project will be! Thank you so very much!!”

  • Healthy Food Does a Body Good!

    Funded Feb 3, 2024

Thank you for funding this project. My students reacted with such joy and appreciation for others who were kind and generous enough to share their resources to support them. They also had genuine concern for the fellow peers who might need a snack at different times of the day.

Healthy food choices on hand have been so valuable in my classroom. Students who arrive late (due to parent or student oversleeping, car trouble, or doctor's appointment) are able to have a snack that holds them until they have lunch. Occasionally, a student who has an allergy is unable to eat the lunch offered but rather than feel sick or tired from lack of food energy, I can share a snack that helps them through the day.”

  • Crafty Creations with Fiber Arts

    Funded Dec 14, 2023

I must begin by saying DonorChoose and its generous donors are truly amazing. My Fiber Arts Club began today. The materials for this project arrived just yesterday - great timing if I do say so myself. The students eyes were wide. Excitement was in the air. Everyone, including me, couldn't wait to dive it to see what materials we had and think about what projects we would work on. Then I heard the most wonderful phrase "I love DonorsChoose". I concur. I could not bring such joy and students just wouldn't have such amazing experiences without the help of this organization and its generous donors. What to do next but dig in. Students selected their crochet hooks and their favorite yarn colors. Some were new to crochet and knit and began to learn; others with prior experience mapped out the projects they planned to work on. I just know this will be an experience I will continue and grow throughout the remainder of the year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wilson

  • Fiber Arts and Sewing Club

    Funded Aug 29, 2023

My scholars were in disbelief that generous donors like you would help to fund a project for our Fiber Arts Club. Their eyes were thrilled to see a sewing machine and case to store it safely. As other students heard of our good fortune, we now have lots of interested students who would like to try their hands in fiber arts.

Since they are new to working with different mediums, we are starting slow. Middle school students are the first to try their hand with the sewing machine. They will act as my interns as the littles get to sew by machine after learning to sew by hand.

We are truly excited and feel so fortunate to have this opportunity. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wilson

My students are spectacular given some of the challenges they face. They are living in an impoverished area and many are living in single parent households or under the care of a guardian other than their biological parents. Our district and school has undergone budget cuts and it can be difficult to find resources that allow our students to have the same advantages as students in other districts.
