  • Storybook STEM

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

WOW! My heart is bursting!! I am in awe of your generosity and your desire to help give my students opportunities to engage and work collaboratively with one another to create projects that combine science, technology, engineering, and math that begin with a thematic storybook to excite and

    engage them in hands-on learning!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dotson

  • A Classroom Library That Celebrates Diversity and Inclusion Through Books!

    Funded Sep 5, 2019

WOW! Your kindness in giving to my project "A Classroom Library that Celebrates Diversity and Inclusion through Books" made our hearts smile! If you could've seen my students faces... you would've thought it was Christmas morning! Pure joy filled our classroom!! Watching each child carefully choose and begin reading a new book with many characters that represented their cultural background was magical.

I am filled with so much gratitude and appreciation of your generosity. These books have helped my students to gain a better understanding of the diverse cultures in our country, as well as appreciate their own culture more. It has been a positive influence that they have access to everyday and they are developing a respect and understanding of their cultures as they practice and improve their reading skills.

Having access to multicultural literature has empowered my students to have positive attitudes towards diversity and tolerance. This mindset is priceless in the world we live in today. Good books are windows to the world and can be used as a tool not just to learn to read, but to teach important life skills. My students are on their way to growing into respectful and character minded citizens of this world, that have sensitivity and tolerance for all people.

Again, thank you for your donation. All of our new books are helping my students strengthen their love for reading while developing their character and self esteem!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dotson

A new reading rug and wide range of books with characters that represent them in books is powerful. It will provide a place for my students to use books as a window to cultures. I plan to have rich discussions about books and character development/traits as a way to strengthen their reading muscles while gathered on the rug. Critical inclusivity is a way of thinking deeply and thoughtfully about what it means to belong. It means recognizing the value of all students and creating spaces for them to participate. I would love to provide a more diverse portrayal of the world we live in and the opportunity for students to discover their story in a book.
