  • Shared Reading: Save Me a Seat

    Funded Sep 2, 2024

In my classroom we are reading "Save Me A Seat" and every student has a copy thanks to your generosity. We have just finished the first section, which includes chapters 1-8. The students have already learned a great deal about the main characters. We have compared and contrasted them in an activity using a Venn Diagram. We discuss the book after our daily reading. We spend time considering the vocabulary and figurative language the author uses. So far, we know this is the story of a boy who is new to New Jersey, having moved from India. In the text, his teacher thinks he needs "special help" because of his accent. He does have issues integrating with the other students - even the ABCD - American Born Confused Desi - who is Indian, like him, but very much American. The story is told from two point of views. The students are really enjoying this text so far. They cannot wait to continue reading!”

  • My Personal Carpet Square to Sit Upon

    Funded Aug 24, 2023

The colored rug carpet squares (sit upons) you've helped to provide have helped to make the learning environment in my 5th grade classroom more versatile. Your thoughtful contribution means that each of my students now has a special place in our classroom where they can learn and work. They provide a comfortable and colorful space for students to engage in lessons. Beyond their functionality, these carpet squares have created a warm and inviting atmosphere that fosters a sense of community and belonging.

I've already witnessed the positive impact these carpet squares have had on the students' morale and engagement. They ask to use them! They eagerly choose their favorite spots to work and collaborate, and I can see their enthusiasm to use them.

Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and your belief in the importance of a supportive and inspiring learning environment. Your support has truly made a difference, and we are deeply grateful for your contribution.”

    With gratitude,

  • Learning with Nearpod

    Funded Apr 16, 2023

Your kindness and generosity have made a significant impact on my ability to enhance the learning experience for my students, and I cannot thank you enough. The Gold Nearpod Plan is an invaluable resource that helps me to create and deliver engaging and interactive lessons. My favorite parts are having the ability to use quizzes, polls, videos, collaborative boards, and more. This means that my students will have the opportunity to learn in a more interactive way, which I believe will keep them engaged.

Most recently, I used Nearpod to teach students about Veteran's Day. It included a matching game, a collaborative board, text to read, and a video. Students learned about the history of the holiday and why honoring our vets is so important. I also used it in reading to teach comprehension strategies. I am excited to find other ways to make Nearpod a part of our learning routine.

Your support is truly a gift that keeps on giving, and I am deeply appreciative of the difference it will make in my teaching and in the lives of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Piccione

Our 6th and 7th grade students excel at STEM challenges including robotics. We utilize LEGO Mindstorm Robots and SeaPerch ROV's. Our specific need is in our Sphero unit. Our Sphero robots are old and need to be replaced. Spheros are exciting and hands on! Students are able to complete specific challenges using the Sphero EDU app. Spheros change colors, and react through rolling or vibrating. We have ramps and "skins" to add to the fun. Students learn advanced mathematical concepts and computational thinking with Sphero. They activities we use in the classroom are all aligned to Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards.
