I am a School Psychologist in a Title I elementary school. I spend a great deal of time responding to students in emotional crisis. I am trying to build my toolbox for proactively teaching social emotional learning and assisting the students with calming strategies. I work in a Title I school, which means a significant portion of the students are in a low, socio-economic situation. My school is a partial magnet school for the arts, so expression through visual arts, drama, music, etc. is strongly encouraged in my school. I want to use creative outlets with research-based curriculum to teach social emotional learning.
