Weaving Art, Families, and Black Studies Together
Funded Feb 12, 2025We want to thank you so much for your generosity. I can't begin to tell you what it means for the children to make connections and be inspired by what they are learning in school ! They are already designing their first project and getting ready for the materials to arrive. Again, thank you, and we will send you pictures to show you what we've done!”

Light Up Kindergarten
Funded Oct 22, 2017The children were delighted to receive the light table in the classroom. It ignited a lot of excitement around our light and shadow project. The children experimented with flashlights, color and liquid to discover more about transparency. We added shadow puppet play and the children began to write scripts for shows which we shared with families at the end of the year. A round of applause and cheers for all!
We have begun to develop literacy and math centers where the light table is used as a unique center.”

This classroom project was brought to life by An Anonymous Donor and 8 other donors.Help Us Read!
Funded Mar 6, 2017The children in our kindergarten class are beginning to read and write. Story time is one of their favorites. As a result of your generous donations, all the students were able to take home books to share with their families every week. We always begin a day with a read aloud where children learn how to listen and speak about their noticings within each story The children began using word bubbles and writing about their own feelings after reading the Mo Willems book series in school .
Reading time is woven into many parts of the day. Children have access to books as soon as they enter the classroom, during reading instruction, "Book Look" time as well as choice time at the end of the day. Frequently a child can be seen perusing the shelves for a just right book and finding a quiet space to read. Other times children sit next to each other, giggling and pointing at discoveries they make inside the pages of a favorite book series.
Without exception, all the children have expressed an interest in looking at books as well as learning how to read. I believe this is due to having high quality children's literature in the classroom.”

Ms. Allen
