  • Comfy, Cozy, Calm Down Corner!

    Funded Aug 28, 2018

Thanks again for your generous contribution to our cozy, comfy couch project. The couch arrived late one afternoon. I unboxed it for the children that evening. They squealed with delight the next morning when they saw it. We had a lesson that morning on how we would use our cozy corner to read books and calm down, when needed. We modeled for them how to use it. Then, the children were able to show each other.

They absolutely LOVE it! It is used daily for reading during work time. We also use it to calm down, as our project stated. When children need to calm down either from being overstimulated or upset they can go to the cozy corner and read a book, use a calm down fidget from the black cube seen in one of our pictures, use deep breathing strategies, or several other calm down methods we have taught them.

The couch has made such a difference in our classroom. It wouldn't have been possible with our your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Elder

  • We Need To Experiment!

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

My students loved their new science kit. We received our kit not long before the end of the school year, but they dug right in, as you can see. Included are pictures of their excitement and delight. They couldn't wait to explore the kit. We opened everything up and got right to work.

Their favorite part of the kit was the magnets. They loved experimenting and seeing what would "stick" to the magnetic wands and what wouldn't. They learned vocabulary, such as attract and repel. The children also enjoyed planting seeds, watching them grow and learning about their life cycle. They also learned about what plants need in order to grow and survive. Your generous donations helped my students soak up much knowledge and grow, just like their plants.

I cannot wait to continue sharing the science kit with many classes to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Elder

Wouldn't you expect technology in every classroom in 2016? Unfortunately, that's not a reality in my classroom. I would love to begin integrating some technology back into my classroom. The iPad would be used throughout the day, every day, for a variety of educational experiences, from enhancing math and literacy skills to showing the children educationally valuable real world examples, like how a real inchworm moves. It will also allow them to make connections to the world outside of their city. Your generous donation will enable these children to experience a 21st century education. Won't you help close this disparity gap? Please help them find a love of learning through technology.
