  • Chromebooks for Learning With Technology!

    Funded Aug 22, 2019

We are so grateful for your generosity that afforded our class three chromebooks! To date, this is the biggest project we have ever had funded and it truly speaks to the kindness of these donors that they were willing to contribute so much for our class to have these amazing tools. We cannot thank you enough!

These computers have made technology based learning a true reality in our classroom. We have been able to provide students with individualized skill practice and real-time feedback during independent centers. Not only are students able to access exciting platforms for learning, but we are able to bring interactive resources to the whole group by projecting from these chromebooks. Students are building their vocabulary each morning as they eat breakfast because we can use the chromebooks to access learning videos that can be shared whole group.

The impact of this project has been tremendous and we are so thankful for your contributions!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Challenging Chapter Books Push Comprehension

    Funded Aug 1, 2019

As I suspected in just the third week of school, my higher level readers have breezed through all of the picture books I already had at our listening center (a place where students can hear great reading on CD while following along in a book). When I brought out these challenging chapter books, their eyes lit up and they were beyond excited to have something with more substance at the listening centers. Moreover, it has inspired other students to work hard and set personal goals around reaching levels in which they can understand the chapter books at this learning station.

You have inspired a new generation of passionate readers! THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Organization Eliminates Wasted Instruction Time!

    Funded Aug 22, 2019

This cart has already transformed our classroom! It has provided a way to quickly organize and obtain materials so that groups of students can get clipboards, pencils, erasers, whiteboards and dry erase markers in seconds. With these tools we are able to spend more time focused on work and making sure that students are practicing the skills correctly, rather than spending time passing out individual materials. This is such a solid piece of furniture that will be used for years to come and we are forever grateful for your generous contribution!”

    Mrs. Neal

  • Hands-on Projects Encourage Student Exploration!

    Funded Aug 1, 2019

Nothing excites a six year old more than something tangible they can use to explore the world around them. My students saw me opening the boxes we received from this project and immediately began asking "What's that? When can I do that?". I cannot wait for the opportunity in our curriculum this year to share these items that will build on the concepts they learn in science and allow them to interact and expand their understanding of color, growth, light, and the scientific process. Your generous contribution to our classroom will inspire a new generation of inquisitive minds and scientists!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Supplies Needed for Successful School Year!

    Funded Aug 4, 2019

This project might not have been the most glamorous but it certainly was the most needed project to date. In an early elementary classroom, having the right supplies is crucial (mainly, enough pencils so that kids don't squabble over them while I'm giving directions). We cannot thank you enough for being willing to stock our classroom with the things that are needed but don't come on the supply list - like chart paper, card stock, and specific folders so that every student can stay organized without confusion. You all are rock stars for setting our classroom up for success!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • First Graders Need Tools to Stay Organized!

    Funded Jul 21, 2019

These tools have already made a tremendous impact on my classroom in just a few short days. Our tablets are all organized in the drawers so that each one can charge, stay safe, and remain with their headphones without getting tangled! The caddies have proved to be instrumental in allowing students to have quick, easy access to materials without any issues over whose pencil belongs to whom - in a first grade classroom this is a huge feat. The hanging files and red markers have allowed us to roll out procedures to students so they can quickly find what they need to work on for individualized instruction.

We are so thankful for your help in providing these resources so that we can develop great organizational habits in young learners!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Counters and Tens Frames Build Numeracy

    Funded Aug 4, 2019

We opened these counters and tens frames today and immediately started using them. With these tools I am quickly able to tell which students are proficient in counting objects and how high they can count. This information allows me to tailor my instruction so that I am meeting the needs of all students in my class.

We are so grateful to have these tangible counting tools that students can use on a daily basis for years to come! We are certain that they will help build a mathematical foundation that will give students the tools to become amazing problem solvers!”

  • First Graders Ready to Connect Reading to the Real World!

    Funded Jul 11, 2019

We cannot thank you enough for making Scholastic News a possibility in our classroom this year! Thirty first graders now have access to weekly non-fiction topics that pique their curiosity and give them opportunities to read and comprehend on their level.

Students were even more excited to learn that these weekly readers on a variety of topics are theirs to keep forever! They treasure items they can have all to themselves, especially when they lack books at home.

We are forever grateful that you have provided this opportunity for students to see that reading goes beyond fiction stories on a carpet in a classroom and is a vehicle to learn more about the world around them.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Instant Feedback Prevents Imperfect Practice!

    Funded Jul 25, 2019

You have made such a HUGE positive impact on our classroom by providing the whiteboards and markers for instant feedback. With these, students have the opportunity to think for themselves and everyone gets to answer questions - a much better way to gauge all students' understanding than calling on one student at a time.

We use these whiteboards to answer comprehension questions after reading, to practice spelling, and almost daily in math. Because of your contribution, students are able to get the individual help they need to master skills so that no one goes unnoticed or unhelped.

Thank you again for your kindness and willingness to support or classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Engaging Centers + Instant Feedback = Real Time Learning!

    Funded Apr 20, 2019

This project has truly changed the way that students in my classroom work in independent centers. Before receiving the amazing power pens, which instantly tell a student whether or not they chose the right answer, students worked independently without feedback. Now, they are able to see instantly with a green or red light if their response to a question or problem was correct. This feedback encourages them to think about their answer and figure out why they got a response incorrect. I have seen a true difference in the way students interact at centers and practice their skills - and we have you to thank for that!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

My school is a charter school that serves a low-income community. The students who enter my classroom are already behind their more affluent peers in reading. The students and parents are enthusiastic about learning, but do not have the tools (books, writing utensils, etc.) to work on reading and writing outside of school. With a longer school day, longer school year, and strategic planning, my students will make significant gains to leave first grade reading on grade level, so that they have a fair chance at life.
