  • Masks Make For a Hot Day - We Need Water!

    Funded May 6, 2021

Thank you for your generosity funding this project for my students! They are so excited to receive personalized masks and water bottles that have become requirements in this new covid world. It is because of wonderful people like you that my students are able to have these things that make the day a little easier so they can focus on learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Making Masks Cool in 2nd Grade!

    Funded Apr 2, 2021

Thank you so much for providing all of the materials for students to have personalized face masks! I was able to create masks for my students that have their name and a symbol that is important to them. They were truly excited to receive these masks. Students were saying how comfortable they were and anyone with the new mask did not have to be reminded to keep it over their nose - win! They are treasuring something that is all theirs and we have you to thank for your generosity. Now we are safer but in style!”

  • Virtual Learning Here To Stay - Let's Make It Better!

    Funded Jan 25, 2021

This project has made a world of difference in online teaching! My students are able to see my face during live calls thanks to the adjusted height laptop stand, chair, and ring light. I am also able to make better quality videos because of the ring light and other items such as the document holder. It is truly these small things that make a tremendous impact on our virtual learning. While we are returning to in-person school soon, these items will still be used to model good posture within the classroom and help continue to make great recordings for asynchronous work. We appreciate your donations!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Stop COVID. Start School!

    Funded Oct 4, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous contributions to my classroom. These filters and wipes will be instrumental in preparing and maintaining our physical space so that we are safe upon return. I am happy to report that after an extended delay, we are finally scheduled to go back to the classroom!

These materials will be crucial for cleanliness, health, and overall peace of mind so that parents, students, and myself feel comfortable returning to the classroom where real learning can happen. We are excited to make this happen and SO APPRECIATE your help in making this safer.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Nonfiction Texts Give Background Knowledge to Understand Fiction

    Funded Nov 11, 2020

These books are going to students in a time when they are craving a break from the screen and it is giving their enthusiasm for learning and reading new life. Students picked up these books in their materials just before Christmas break and thought they were Christmas presents! They were so excited to receive more of the series they love and are learning and making connections to the content they are learning in other parts of the ELA block. YOU made it possible for these students to have materials in hand and they will remember this for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Nonfiction Texts Give Background Knowledge to Understand Fiction

    Funded Dec 29, 2019

I am so thankful for your generous contributions that allowed my students to receive these books for their guided reading groups! The students saw me unboxing these and were so excited to begin reading them. Students are asking when their group will get to read these high-interest books and are working hard to reach the next reading level so they can hold them in their hands and turn the pages.

You have inspired students to find joy in reading - which is a gift that cannot be quantified. So THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Sending Some Off-Line Joy!

    Funded Nov 11, 2020

Thank you so much for funding this project which will allow my students to receive little pieces of joy in the mail! Teaching virtually is a challenge and I am constantly trying to find new ways to connect with young kids without being able to build an in-person relationship. These notes of encouragement, lunchbox jokes and blank cards, along with stamps will be mailed directly to students' homes. I sent out my first batch of notes today and cannot wait for students to receive them. I know that it will bring a smile to their faces in these crazy times. Thank you for being generous in your donations to make school meaningful, even virtually.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Digital Learning Timeout With Real Chapter Books!

    Funded Sep 17, 2020

These Magic Tree House books have meant the world to my students! They have had to do so much online that actually touching a real book has instantly increased their engagement in the lesson. They were SO excited to receive these books in the mail and are ready to proudly display them on every Zoom call. I am so thankful that they are getting a chance each day to read these books, away from a screen.

Additionally, my students have demonstrated so much knowledge about Ancient China and Ancient Greece as they read the historical fiction book alongside the Nonfiction reader. They are trying embracing the knowledge and we have YOU to thank for that!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Learning About the World Through Nonfiction!

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

This project was funded at the perfect moment! We just wrapped up a unit on nonfiction and students were like sponges absorbing all the facts they could from these texts. They started asking for more books on various topics. One student told me "I've read all the non-fiction books in our library." He was thrilled to see just a few days later I was opening the packages from Lakeshore to reveal lots of new nonfiction texts for them to TAKE HOME! They were beyond excited to have these books travel with them each night so they could share the new information they are learning with their parents and siblings. You have truly made an impact on young readers by giving them a new zest for reading and feeding their thirst for knowledge. In turn, I hope that this will help close the knowledge gap these lower income students will battle against.

    Thank you times a MILLION!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

  • Library Cart for Leveled Homework Books!

    Funded Nov 10, 2019

This new library cart has made checking out homework books a MUCH easier task. Students are able to quickly see which independent reading level they are on and choose a book from the cart that they can take home to read. This has enabled my students to build solid organizational skills that are making them more responsible humans! Furthermore, this cart gives them the opportunity to have real books at home each night as many of my students don't have books at home to read. If they do have books, they are typically not books that are on their reading level. The resources from this project are helping them experience reading in a whole new way that is accessible to them! We cannot thank you enough for making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Neal

My school is a charter school that serves a low-income community. The students who enter my classroom are already behind their more affluent peers in reading. The students and parents are enthusiastic about learning, but do not have the tools (books, writing utensils, etc.) to work on reading and writing outside of school. With a longer school day, longer school year, and strategic planning, my students will make significant gains to leave first grade reading on grade level, so that they have a fair chance at life.
