Genius Hour Projects
Funded Nov 6, 2017Most of us have access to a printer and don't think twice when it's time to print something. Prior to your donation, my students did not have access to any printer, much less one that was color. They spend hours each week working on research projects that they poured their heart and soul into, but only have access at school. As simple as it sounds, these kids want to show their parents the work that they have done and until now that was not an option. Your donation has now made that possible. Thank you for caring about my students and believing in their future. I will be forever grateful. Welcome to the Wildwood family.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Sergey Brin Family Foundation and 2 other donors.Books, Books, and More Books
Funded Sep 14, 2017Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to read about our class and to make the donation to increase our classroom library. Since the books have arrived, EVERY book has been checked out with a steady flow of new students adding their names to the waiting list.
There is one particular student that stands out to me that I would like to share with you. To be honest, he's not a very big reader. As he would say, "Reading is not my thing!". His reading level is at the end of second grade and he truly struggles to comprehend what he reads. We work together very regularly, but nothing has really interested him until now. We started the first book together, but he decided he didn't need me and wanted to read it at home and just discuss it with me the following day. Each day he could not wait to tell me what happened and was in a rush to finish the book. He did a amazing job and is now on this 4th book. Please know that you have a hand in creating the love of reading for this young man.
Each book that you have donated will help us reach our goal of becoming excellent readers and for that we will be forever grateful.”

Mrs. Simon
Let There Be Sound
Funded Mar 9, 2017I have the privilege of teaching the most amazing fifth grade class in Baton Rouge. Our class functions as a close community, which resembles that of a loving family. We work hard every day to improve ourselves and help each other. Working headphones in the classroom is a must when learning the language, as most of our students are. Your donation has helped them to improve their learning.
You are now part of of our learning community!
Thank you so much for your generous donation to OUR family!”

The Westing Game
Funded Jan 11, 2017As a teacher, there is nothing I enjoy more than helping a student grow. At the beginning of each school year, I have my students complete an anonymous questionnaire which discusses how they feel about reading. The results are usually the same each year. Most students to not enjoy reading. The reason they read is 'because my teacher makes me'.
However, I have the students complete the survey again at the end of the year and their answers are very different. Most students say that they 'like to read' and have read many books 'because I wanted too'. This is music to my ears. When students make the choice themselves to read, then I know I've done my job. The survey asks them to tell me what book made them 'want' to read and they all say the same thing....The Westing Game!
Please know that you have personally make a difference in the lives of my students. You have help to create life-long learners for generations to come.”

Mrs. Simon
Reading Rocks
Funded Jan 24, 2017You made our day with your generosity!
I cannot express to you in words how much I appreciate your support for our classroom and the future of our students.
My goal as a teacher is to make sure that no child leaves me without an internal love of reading. Yes, this is a tall order for just an ordinary teacher, but with the right books, it is completely possible! You have helped to plant that seed within our students that reading isn't just something they "have" to do, but rather something they "want" to do. Please know that you have made a REAL differences in the lives of these kids.”

Books, Books, and More Books
Funded Nov 14, 2016Our classroom has changed because of you! My students are begging to check out books from our classroom library everyday. I now feature a "Book of the Week" that allows the students to get a sneak peek into the novel. This has helped drive the excitement and has since caused us to created a waiting list for many of our new books because EVERYONE wants to read. What a wonderful problem to have!
Words cannot express my gratitude and that of my students for your generous support. Your contribution has made our classroom the learning center it was meant to be.”

Students with Selective Hearing!!
Funded Oct 19, 2016Dear Donors,
Try to imagine your life without books? Without the ability to transcend reality into a world of imagination that is far from your normal, mundane life. This is the place that many of our students spend much of their lives. Stuck in a world that has dealt them a bad hand. Until now!
Having a variety of genres, as well as multiple copies of books, helps the students significantly. It allows them the ability to read along side a friend and peer, and to tackle the above-level books with confidence and pride. They are able to analyze characters, settings, and themes, as well as experience the amazing writing created by authors from around the world.
The generous support of individuals like you is what makes it possible for our classroom to become the learning center it was meant to be. Your donation helps to create a place where students 'want' to be, instead of 'have' to be. And for that, I am forever grateful.”
