You will never make it. You want graduate from high school. You will continue to be a statistic. These words, my students hear growing up every day. Working in the one of the poorest neighborhoods in Atlanta, my students are deprived of many of the offerings that the north side students have daily.
Last school year when I was allowed to use technology daily in my classroom, my students' level of wanting to learn flourished. I had students who NEVER picked up a book to read for pleasure, wanting to read because of my engaging lessons. Some of my students were the ones affected by the cheating scandal, and are many grade levels behind.
My average reading level the last couple of years was 2nd grade... I teach 9th grade students. However, by the end of the year, I had one of the highest growths in the district. I wouldn't be able to do this without technology. These are the students who won't learn by textbook... creativity has to be used.
