As a brand new Media Specialist, I teach over a 100 children a day. During each of my classes, I do a "lively" read-aloud to expose my students to new literature. In addition, I provide students with an opportunity to preview their books and share their thinking as to why they selected it. These oral presentations are a great way to promote reading. Prior to leaving our school, students were learning how to use Google Classroom, Google Slides and Screencasting, so they could transform their oral presentations into book trailers. The plan was to create book trailers that are linked to QR codes. The QR codes were to be placed near their corresponding books, so students and teachers would be able to access the book trailers any time by scanning the QR code. I want to continue this project with my students, Unfortunately, I only have about 400 books in my small makeshift Media Center, which means students will be without books. Besides not having enough books, my limited space will not accommodate a larger collection of books. In addition, we are sharing our chrome books because we had to leave our desktop computers when we were relocated. The Chromebooks that I am asking for will allow me to transcend the limitations of my current location. I will be able to expand my print collection by providing access to digital books online. Plus, they will allow me to continue to teach students how to use technology as a tool to create meaningful work that benefits our community of readers.
