My students are in grades 6-8, and have a required music course. They don't feel a connection to the art because they didn't choose to be in the class. Currently, we have very few instrument resources for students to use. This makes class feel like another history or language arts class as opposed to music. It's music theory or music appreciation, as opposed to a hands on class that teaches students to play an instrument.
