My students are always sharing "their story," whether it be what they did on the weekend, describing a movie or game they just discovered, or simply conveying family traditions or customs. In addition, my students struggle with reading and writing and incorporating storytelling as a way to develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. So I thought, how could I turn this into a teachable moment and have them share their stories in an engaging yet differentiated way for each student? The iPad is a great learning tool that will give my students access to a variety of learning apps that will help my students convey stories using photos, iMovie, and other storyboarding apps. We currently have 2 outdated desktops that rarely get access to wifi and at most give students access to word processing. This means my students have limited access to technology and the creative aspects that newer technology could offer them. My class is in desperate need of an upgrade. Having two iPads would allow my students to have greater access to technology and its benefits. Overall, the iPads offer more diverse methods for delivering instruction and engaging students for learning in the 21st century. iPads can be used for every subject area as a whole group, small group, or independently. The iPads are interactive, engaging, and exciting. Having two iPads would enable these students to tap into their creativity and facilitate greater opportunities to develop their storytelling skills as well as learn, grow, and explore daily in the classroom.
