High-Interest Books For ELA Students!
Funded Oct 3, 2024Thank you for your generous donation to my project. Our students have been enjoying the high-interest books we were able to order thanks to your kindness. Students are doing well this year and appreciate the "gifts" you provide. I have students open the boxes so that they can appreciate the goods provided. The books provided have improved our students' interest in reading, and I hear them discussing what they read outside of class as well. We work hard to help students develop a life-long joy of reading, and your support really made a difference. Thank you!”

Ms. Graham
This classroom project was brought to life by SONIC Foundation and 11 other donors.Academically Confident and Creative
Funded Oct 26, 2022Your generous donation provided students the opportunity to perform on the same level as some of their more economically supported students. Students were able to use the materials to create school projects that allowed them to use their imaginations to create unique and competitive projects along with the rest of their class.
Students were so excited to see the materials that they were brand new and could not afford to purchase for themselves. Simple things like stickers and tape are glue sticks are not always available to all students at home. Posterboards, paints, markers, and other supplies are not easily available to some of our students.
Thank you so much for supporting our students. Your kind and generous donation was invaluable. Thank you from all of us :)”

This classroom project was brought to life by Panda Cares and 6 other donors. From "I Hate Reading!" to "Can I Borrow This Book?"
Funded Oct 29, 2022Thank you for the wonderful additions to our classroom library. The students appreciated the brand-new books and because of this, they took extra special care of them. They were used extensively in our silent sustained reading and will be used again in future classes. Keeping the bookshelf stocked with books that inspire and activate the imagination expands my student's worldview. Many of my students have never even been out of the state they grew up in and this provided so many opportunities for them.
Many of the books were used in exuberant class discussions and the student's final book projects reflected the joy they experienced while reading their chosen novels. Thank you for providing these wonderful resources for my students. They have proven to be invaluable!”

Ms. Graham
My Student's Can't Wait to Meet Dr. Jimenez
Funded Nov 19, 2022My students were so excited to meet Dr. Francisco Jimenez in person. He is a guest speaker at our school, sponsored by the English Dept. and funded by our dept. as well. We believe that the opportunity to meet the writers of the text they read throughout the year is invaluable. This year was extra special because of your generous support and donations. Every student had an opportunity to have their copy of his book signed and take a picture with Dr. Jimenez.
The smiles on their faces say it all! Thank you for making this happen. This is truly an experience they will never forget. We look forward to providing this opportunity again this year. This will be our 12th year offering this opportunity to our freshmen students.
We cannot thank you enough for helping to provide this opportunity to our students.”

No More Lap Desk!
Funded Oct 16, 2020Thank you for helping me to get a desk for my virtual classroom. I had been working on a lap desk and, while it was okay when we began distance learning, there were many disadvantages to having such a small surface to work with.
One of the best teaching strategies teachers possess is modeling behaviors and habits that we want our students to develop. Students now see me sitting up in an office chair, with proper posture, organized and dedicated workspace, ready to facilitate learning. Many students commented right away about the difference in my "office". I now have a dedicated space for teaching and can have everything out and ready to go when we start class.
Last but not least, I was used to standing all day and rarely sitting down. My back, shoulders, and neck often left me with a headache at the end of the day. Now, because I am able to sit up at a desk, and even get up and move around, my health has improved. I can lead games with movement and create brain breaks that involve movement and even set up my phone as a mobile projector! What a difference a desk can make! Thank you :)”

Digital Learning-Ready, Set, Go!
Funded Sep 28, 2020Thank you for your generous gift of certificates to use on Teachers Pay Teacher. So often we recreate curriculum that others have already tested and tried. The opportunity to search for and purchase supporting curriculum has become invaluable during this unique time in our history.
I have been able to find plenty of unique ready to use curriculum that is created especially for digital learning. Students have created digital highways, analyzed Romeo & Juliet, Of Mice and Men, and played interactive vocabulary games because of your donation. To see the smiles on my student's faces and have them tell me that they can't wait to come to class because we always do something interesting. You made that happen and I can't even begin to express how much I appreciate the opportunity to create a bright spot in each student's day.
Recently students have engaged in an extended writing project, complete with virtual index cards, that can be used to facilitate collaborative writing and project-based learning. Thank you so much for valuing education and making digital learning effective, engaging, and fun.”

The Bookish Crowd
Funded Mar 2, 2020Thank you for your generosity. My students enjoyed having the opportunity to choose books to read, with their friends, for enjoyment. The discussions that resulted from this option were invaluable and many students commented on how much more fun it was to read when they could talk about the book with someone who was also enjoying the same book.
Students in my classroom, browse from an extensive library, which you expanded upon for our class. The little library in my room is so popular that other teachers and students come into our room and borrow books for other classes. Your generosity has had far-reaching results within our high school community and we are incredibly grateful for your support.”

Ms. Graham
This classroom project was brought to life by A group of anonymous donors and 5 other donors. The Gift of Shakespearean Literacy
Funded Aug 9, 2019Your generous contribution to our project is making Shakespeare available and comprehensible to a wide range of students. Students who were previously lost in the Shakespearean language have embraced the two new resources you have provided. They were so excited to have a book that is not only brand new but also a gift from you. Students who typically struggle because of disabilities or are very low in their academic performance while endeavoring to master more than one language have been able to read along with other students and participate in engaging classroom conversations.
Students who typically master standard reading levels also enjoy the new books (graphic novel and Shakespeare Made Easy) because, although they understand the grade-level reading, they benefit from activating more than one learning modality. The books also offer another means of expression by providing examples of how my students can represent their mastery through art.
I cannot thank you enough for investing in my students.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Born This Way Foundation and one other donor.I Finally Understand Shakespeare!
Funded Apr 25, 2018Thank you for the quick response to our project. We had recently begun reading Shakespeare's Hamlet and ELA students were struggling with the Shakespearean language. Your quick response made it possible for us to switch to the Shakespeare Made Easy books during the first Act of the play. Students are really enjoying the play and all of the intrigue that is Hamlet.
Students in my classroom love to read and look forward to seeing what kind of activity I am going to have them complete while reading. Many of my students enjoy the classroom library, which has been stocked with books from all of my travels. I have even been able to offer my students signed first editions in my classroom because they take such good care of our library. Your addition to our library will be no different.
Hopefully the pictures included demonstrate how much CHS students value your kind generosity. Currently the Hamlet books are being utilized but, at the beginning of next year, students will be able to enrich their knowledge of Shakespeare and Elizabethan times as they also consider Macbeth, which you also provided. Thank you again from me and my classes. The books will be well used for a very long time. :)”
