My students are a diverse group. The majority of my class is African American, biracial, and Hispanic with a few Asian and Caucasian children. Many of the children have only one parent living at home or live in a home with several families. Our school is over 50% free and reduced lunch. The population in our community changes frequently due to the housing market collapse. Our school serves the hearing impaired students in the county and has a self-contained classroom for special needs. Our county has one of the highest foreclosure rates in the country. The children are still inquisitive and eager to learn. My school has high standards and continually ranks high in testing for the county and state.
