Reading Rocks
Funded Dec 7, 2023The various book series are an amazing addition to our school and Advisory Library. The students are so excited to read them and do book reviews. They are also excited because these book series will allow them to strive closer and closer to their AR goal for the second semester.
The students are excited about the Goosebumps books because there are so many options, storylines, and various characters. The Judy Blume Collection series are very hot topic and there are waitlists for them to be read by students in class. Percy Jackson's books are a hot commodity because of the Disney + series.
Thank you for allowing my student to be excited about reading!”

Funded Aug 18, 2023Without your support and kind donations, my students would not be able to enjoy new activities and the ability to play certain games. Your kindness goes a long way in helping the students have a better school and physical education experience.
When the students opened up the materials their smiles were huge and excited. They were eager to play with the foam balls, volleyballs, basketballs, and koosh balls. Not to mention using the clipboards to not have to write on the floor or their partner's back. haha
Thank you again!”

Funded Dec 31, 2022Thank you so much for your kind donations to our school! When they opened the packages and saw the equipment they were extremely happy and excited to learn the new game.
They have been eager to learn the various throwing styles and techniques of the flying discs to play Ultimate and other flying disks games like Disc Golf and Kan Jam. The flying discs have been very fun and frustrating to play especially on windy days but it makes and keeps the Physical Education Classes on their toes.

ACRMA#8 P.E. Is Back!
Funded Nov 1, 2021The students love their new ball racks, Kan jam, Volleyballs, volleyball net, and much more. The new equipment has been vital in allowing the student to be more responsible in taking care of equipment and making sure equipment is taken care of and appreciated.
Their faces when they saw the boxes and opening of boxes was similar to a child opening gifts on their birthday or Christmas. The excitement was written all over their faces.
When they got to help assemble the ball racks and pump up the volleyballs and use them over the new net during PE and after school was very exciting.
Teamwork was essential in assembling the racks and deciding who has the jobs during certain periods and after school. Thank you again! Much appreciated.”

Funded Mar 3, 2020Thank you for your kind donations to allow my students to receive books. They are super excited to open them and read them. We are in a weird time right now with the whole coronavirus epidemic. They are bored at home and really want to get back to school.
Having these books ready for them to unpack and read is another reason to help them get through their days at home. I hope the quarantine ends relatively quickly and we are back to reading on a daily basis and having little conversations about the days and their books.
Thank you all again!”

They were excited to check the books out and begin reading. Thank you all for the kind donations. Seeing their faces and their intense focus while reading them is amazing. Students are speaking and giving each other reviews of the books and sharing the description on the backs.”

Lacrosse Life!
Funded Mar 27, 2018The students love the lacrosse sticks! They have never even heard of lacrosse until we pulled these out of the boxes. When they opened them, they asked: "what are these?". We had to show them some youtube videos to make them believe that this was a an actual sport that is played across the country.
The students are getting the hang of catching and throwing fundamentals. It is a little difficult for them but they are persevering and pushing on and are very determined. They want to be able to master the throw and catch! It is very cool to see the students practicing on their own time as well. They will come in during nutrition and lunch.
The sticks have been such a hit that there is the talk of making a girls and boys team, not just a co-ed one! The students and I both thank you for all the help and support in diversifying our units!”

Funded Mar 27, 2018The reading has very serious and focused the last few weeks. Thanks to the new books and the variety of them it is amazing for the students to have the ability to choose from different genres. The students especially love the Harry Potter books the best. The students have very animated discussions about the differences between the books and the movies. The Chronicles of Narnia books are another student favorite. The students like to discuss if the movies will be as good as the books. They like to compare the aura of Aslan in the book versus how he is portrayed in the films. A very good conversation that leads to lunch and even after school.
I introduced the new texts by challenging the students to read something they have never thought about reading before. Said they should fo the 20-page challenge. Read the first 20 pages and if they don't like the book then they can discuss why and change their book. Out of the 30 students I have in my advisory only 2 have changed the book, but then returned after they saw their friends committed to them.
There are some particular students who are enjoying the "I Am" books. They like the books because they are very short but informative and relevant to what they are learning in their History classes at the moment. It helps them make connections and share their thoughts in genuine conversations.”

Mr. Villanueva
