Our middle school is diverse with about 1,400 sixth, seventh, and grade students. Almost 50% qualify for free or reduced lunch. Many of our students receive services including special education, ESL, and academic intervention. My students are reluctant readers with limited access to books that they can connect with. I am on a mission to create a classroom library of fiction and nonfiction materials that will appeal to my middle schoolers. It is important for students to continue to enjoy reading during the middle school years because these skills will help them in their other subject areas.
