I teach in a Title 1 school in an urban area of New York. My school population is comprised of low income students who receive free or reduced lunch as well universal free breakfast. Many of our students are struggling learners. Despite their individual challenges they come to school each day, eager and ready to learn. Providing my students with a comfortable place where they can sit and focus during lessons is key. Currently my students sit on the floor or in nearby chairs for morning meeting and whole class learning activities. The new rug requested will allow each of my students to have their own personal space during such activities.
