    Learning materials from DonorsChoose have had a profound impact on students, especially in special education classrooms. These resources engage students by offering hands-on, interactive tools that make learning more accessible and enjoyable, helping to increase attention and participation. With materials tailored to different learning styles, such as visual aids, multisensory activities, and specialized devices, students are given alternative routes to understanding key concepts. New materials also boost motivation, showing students that their education is supported by others, which inspires greater effort and persistence. Additionally, these tools support individualized learning needs, particularly for students with IEPs, by providing differentiated instruction and accommodations to meet specific goals. DonorsChoose materials foster independence, helping students build autonomy through visual schedules, task organizers, and educational games that encourage self-guided learning. Overall, these resources have created a more inclusive, stimulating, and productive classroom environment, promoting academic success and personal growth.”

  • Write, Learn, and Grow: Mobile Tools for Active Learning!

    Since receiving the mobile dry erase board and lapboards from Donor's Choose, Class 514 has incorporated these materials into a variety of lessons, enhancing our learning experiences. When my students first saw the mobile dry erase board, their eyes lit up with excitement. The mobility of the board enables me to meet students where they need it, allowing for more personalized support during group work and instruction.

    One specific project involved a collaborative writing activity where students worked in small groups to draft a personal narrative. Each group utilized the dry erase board to brainstorm ideas, outline their stories, and share their drafts with the class, while individual lap boards allowed each student to jot down their thoughts and ideas simultaneously. This visual and interactive approach made the writing process more engaging, enabling students to see their ideas come to life as they wrote and revised together.

    Currently, we are deep into our personal narrative writing unit, where students are crafting stories about their summer experiences. The next steps involve sharing their drafts with their peers during a "story circle" activity. Using the mobile dry erase board, each group will present their stories and receive feedback from their classmates. This will not only enhance their writing skills but also foster a sense of community as they learn to give and receive constructive feedback. After revisions, students will publish their narratives in a class anthology, showcasing their hard work and creativity.”

  • Soaring into Structured Literacy

    Funded May 8, 2022

    Your generous donations have allowed the students have access to kinesthetic materials needed to help them with reading acquisition skills. They are now well on their way to develop auditory, visual, and verbal skills that will serve as the foundation to reading. The multi-sensory materials have impacted student learning as they will be able to use the materials to generate multiple pathways of recognition and understanding in the acquisition of integral literacy skills.

    The best part is that students do not even realize they are working to develop these critical skills because it is so much fun using these materials during instruction and station time. Students have been requesting to use these materials independently over and over again.
