Kindergarten is a year of exploration and movement. The students in our class hardly ever sit at their tables. We are sitting on the carpet, laying on the ground, completing work under tables, working in various centers around the room, etc. Tables and chairs limit the amount of movement for students sitting doing their work. Our dream is to provide the wiggly students in our class with alternative seating options. We will lower our tables and the pillows and pillow cases will be used as seats! Alternative seating is considered a form of UDL because of the choice it is giving students. They will still have the option to sit in regular chairs or stand as always but the lowered tables and pillows will be another option. We ordered different colored pillow cases to help identify the collaborative groups. We cannot wait to have this option in our classroom!
