Flexible Seating for All
Funded Nov 29, 2022I am so incredibly grateful for these new materials, which have made my classroom the place to be in the building! In a middle school, it is not common for rooms to have flexible seating; therefore, my students were just as excited as I was as each item arrived!
I had two projects funded, a "Cozy Reading Nook" and "Flexible Seating". While I am still working on a fair system so everyone has a chance to use the new materials, even the shyest of students leaps onto the floor to use the portable lap desks or the lap pads when given the opportunity. The saucer chairs have created a cozy space for independent reading. However, the other day, we used them for movie theater-style seating!
The bean bag chairs are so comfortable and we have had some great conversations about the texts we are reading in class. I call them the "HOT" seats, which stands for Higher Order Thinking. Also, I purchased a red rug (get it... hot!), which has transformed the room into a whole different space. I have been in this classroom for nineteen years and I've grown a new, fond appreciation for what I can achieve with these new additions!
I love the new rolling laptop desk and chair, which enable me to visit the students at the desks who are not in the flexible seating areas, the "Book Nook" or the "HOT" seats. As you can see from the photos, these new items are not just for the students. We held an Instructional Leadership Team meeting in room 513, and the teachers who float in to use the room are also loving the materials.
Thank you, donors and Donors Choose, for these little projects which fund big dreams!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. DeClara
