  • Interactive Reading and Math For Students with Learning Disabilities!

    Funded Jun 9, 2017

Thanking everyone for generously supporting my project for this school year. The "Osmo" system will enhance my ipad, my donorschoose project from last year. I can't wait to use the system with my students. They are eagerly waiting to improve their vocational skills. Again, thanking friends and family for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Garofalo

  • Ipad Apps In Special Needs Schools

    Funded Oct 2, 2015

Thank you very much for all your generous donations and support for my donors choose project. It was very kind of everyone to donate the I-Pad and case for my students to use in their occupational therapy sessions. My students were excited and surprised to have the latest technology to use during their sessions. My students are very grateful for your kindness and generosity in the procurement of this wonderful gift.

The students have experimented with use of use of several teaching applications that assist them in developing their cognitive, visual-perceptual, visual-motor and fine motor skills. One specific application is advancing their knowledge and helping them to purchase supplies in a virtual grocery store while another application teaches them how to prepare a table for dinner. The students are enjoying the many side features especially the feature that allows them cut up virtual fruit on their I-Pad.

There are further teaching modalities that allow the students to trace a specific letter and then independently script the letter to the computer screen. Please see attached photos showing the enjoyment my students are experiencing due to your overwhelming kindness and generosity. Thank you all once again for your assistance in making these projects a success.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Garofalo

We work with special needs students with a variety of disabling conditions such as Autism, Down's Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy and Intellectual Disabilities among others. They attend a separate school from their typically developing peers in order to better help them overcome the challenges they are facing in accessing the educational system.
