My students live in an inner city and low-income neighborhood, and come from different cultural backgrounds. Many of my students came to Kindergarten with no educational experiences. For many of them Kindergarten is their first time in an educational setting. Also, a quarter of students in my classroom are English Language Learners. A handful of students have difficulty concentrating and staying focused. We incorporate a lot of movement and interactive learning to keep students engaged. My students come to school every day eager and excited to learn. Although they may face challenges, they are excited to be a part of a community. We are a team in my classroom. Everyone helps each other. I want to instill a sense of belonging to my students, and hope they know they are cared for.
