  • Let's Make Learning and Reading Fun!

    Funded Jan 15, 2024

There are not enough words to express my joy, gratitude, and thanks for your generous donations to my class project. My students and I are so very appreciative of your support for education and creative, hands-on techniques for learning. We are looking forward to receiving these literacy materials. They will be a great tool as we continue to grow and learn in the classroom. We can't wait to share some pictures of us using our new learning tools! Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

  • Let's Find Out Magazine!

    Funded Dec 2, 2015

It has been wonderful reading the Scholastic Let's Find Out magazines. The children get so excited every Friday when we get to read them. We have made it a special part of our Friday. They have learned many new and exciting information introduced in the magazines. Many of my students wouldn't normally get to learn this information through such exciting photographs and video, and you made this possible.

I am very passionate about reading! It is something I love to do and love to teach. I hope I will instill a love of reading and learning in my students. I have noticed that many of my students get excited for Reader's Workshop. During Reader's Workshop we work in small groups, read independently and partner read. I have used the Scholastic magazines to incorporate non-fiction and informational texts into our Reader's Workshop and Science block. I have found that Let's Find Out magazines make reading and learning fun. When I tell students that we will be reading a Let's Find Out magazine they get excited and cheer!

It is with sincere appreciation that you funded this project, you have made reading and learning fun for this Kindergarten class!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Grier

My students live in an inner city and low-income neighborhood, and come from different cultural backgrounds. Many of my students came to Kindergarten with no educational experiences. For many of them Kindergarten is their first time in an educational setting. Also, a quarter of students in my classroom are English Language Learners. A handful of students have difficulty concentrating and staying focused. We incorporate a lot of movement and interactive learning to keep students engaged. My students come to school every day eager and excited to learn. Although they may face challenges, they are excited to be a part of a community. We are a team in my classroom. Everyone helps each other. I want to instill a sense of belonging to my students, and hope they know they are cared for.
