Second Grade Readers
Funded Jul 1, 2010Thank you so much for these books! My students absolutely love these chapter books, which are perfect for them. They especially love the Captain Underpants books and I love to see them sitting together reading and laughing about the books.
My students this year are voracious readers! As soon as we put new books on the shelves, they can't wait to check them out and read them. They add them to their book bags and read whenever they have a minute or they sign them out and take them home to read with their families. It is wonderful!
Books are such a good investment! Students will be able to enjoy them for years! Thanks again for your support! We really appreciate your help!”

Reading About Science
Funded Aug 30, 2010Thank you so much for funding this project for non-fiction science books! My students are really enjoying these books, especially the Eye Witness books and the atlas! We've begun using these books to write scientific book reports and my students are really learning a lot about how to write factual reports.
The Claire Giannini Fund has really made a difference in the lives of thousands of students! Your generosity is astounding and wonderful!
Thanks to your wonderful gift, my students and students for years to come will benefit from these books, as they use them for research and reports. Thanks again for your support! We appreciate it.”

Play Ball!
Funded Jun 20, 2010Thank you so much for contributing towards this project! We got the balls, jump ropes and hula hoops in the mail last week and my students were delighted to begin using them! Before we got these materials, we had a only had a couple red bouncy balls and some old jump ropes - not nearly enough outdoor equipment to satisfy my 26 second graders! My students would have to go the basketball court or the field and ask other students to share their balls, or do without. Now, I see my students out there, playing soccer together and running around the basketball court together playing basketball. This is a gift they really enjoy!
It is so important to keep our kids moving! Too often, the only exercise students get is at school, so it wonderful that my students have more options for moving their bodies now! Thanks again for your support! ”

We're Reading Now!
Funded Apr 19, 2010Thank you for funding this project for various reading materials. We've begun using the sight word sentences every day as a quick way to practice reading a lot of different words. Some of the words contain letter patterns that my students haven't been taught yet, but I have been pleasantly surprised to see how many of them are able to easily read all the words. My students have also enjoyed seeing the new sentences that are up everyday and they love to have a turn with the pointer, reading a sentence to the whole class.
In the past, I would create my own sight word sentences, but it was laborious to change them every day. This set includes a huge variety of sight words and sentences in one convenient box. Putting up new sentences is quick and easy and my students are benefiting from the extra practice.
My supplies budget is pretty small, so I've come to rely on donorschoose.org and people like you to get fun resources like these for my students. Thanks again for your generosity! It is greatly appreciated.”

Funded Apr 17, 2010Thank you so much for funding this big book project! The big book easel is so convenient to use. Now, I can read big books to my students without the book falling down every time I turn the page. This easel glides around the room on casters to where it is needed most - the easel I was using was a well-known finger-pincher! I had to ban students from trying to move it because it collapsed so easily and was dangerous. In addition to providing a place to read books that is easy to see from my rug area, this easel also has a small storage area in the back for a box of markers, as well as storage slots for lots of big books. My students also enjoyed the two big books.
Like most schools, ours has endured many budget cuts, and there simply isn't money for big furniture items like this easel. Without your support, my students would still be in danger of having pinched fingers from our old rickety easel, so thanks again! We really appreciate your donations!”

Funded Apr 26, 2010Thank you so much for funding this proposal for physical education equipment. The hopscotch rugs and balancing ball game have quickly become favorite activities for my students and the other kindergarten students at my school to do during recess. It is so wonderful to see them exercising and having a such a great time! With our weird weather, we've even had a May indoor recess, and my students enjoyed playing hopscotch indoors. We use these materials daily and we are looking forward to sharing them with others at our upcoming end-of-the-year field day!
Budget cuts have meant that funding has been cut for everything except the essentials, like pencils and paper. That means we would not have been able to get these fun materials without your support! Thanks again!”

We Need An Activity Table
Funded Apr 9, 2010Wow! What a difference a table makes. I can say, without exaggeration, that this table has increased student engagement! Because this table allows for closer proximity, I am able to sit close enough to my students to easily monitor their work. Their position around the table makes it easy for all of them to see me as well. The table is also spacious enough for my groups of 6 or 7 students to comfortably work without getting in each other's way.
Our school, like most, is making significant budget cuts, and our supply budgets cover just the barest essentials, such as paper and pencils. Without the support of wonderful donors like you, we would not have been able to get this amazing table! Thank you so much!”

Funded Apr 18, 2010Wow! Thank you for funding these books! They are wonderful. I put these books all together in a special basket and have been encouraging my students to read them in the beginning of the school day and whenever they have free time. I really enjoy watching my students read these books! They are so proud of themselves when they are able to read the entire book, and, since these books aren't "boring" like the books from our language arts adoption are, students are having a great time choosing which one to read. It is cute too, because occasionally, we'll have to move on to our next activity before they have a chance to finish their books, so they've been marking their place with book marks and coming back to finish reading the next chance they get. These books have increased my students' enthusiasm for reading!
This part of the year is so busy, and I haven't had any time to put the library pockets into these books so they can be checked out. During the summer, I will have more free time to do it, so next year my students will be able to use these books to impress their parents with their amazing reading abilities!
I can assure that these books will be well-read for many years to come but without your support it wouldn't have been possible. So, thanks again for putting these wonderful books into the hands of my students. We really appreciate your generosity!”

Funded Feb 17, 2010Thank you so much for your support! Science is so important and very fun for students. Now that it is spring, we've begun learning about life cycles and growing things. We've also just completed our language arts theme about plants, so we got these materials just in time!
My students have so much fun with hands-on science materials and there is nothing that brings excitement quite like growing plants from seeds. Kindergarten is a time for building foundations in all subjects. As my students use hands-on materials like these, they learn important things about science that they wouldn't from reading a book or completing a worksheet.
Budget cuts have eliminated funding for all but the most basic necessities, so without your generous support, we would not have gotten these materials. Thanks again! ”

Learning Language In Color
Funded Dec 31, 2009I can't thank you enough for helping to fund this project. We got our new printer and it is wonderful! After it was hooked up, I showed my students the new printer and told them all the benefits of it. Some of them had no idea what a printer was before I showed them our new printer!
Besides being able to print pictures of my students directly from my camera, our new printer prints awesome, vibrant, colorful pictures of animals from various sources on the web. These colorful pictures are perfect for my language learners who are currently learning how to describe animals and their habitats. Our new printer can also be used to make copies if I need to make a quick class set of something.
This year, my school district is focusing on buying computers to replace the outdated ones in our district. There is simply no funding available for classroom printers or ink, so without your generous support, my students would not have this new, valuable resource! Thank you, thank you, and thank you again!”
