  • Let's Ball: Lions Basketball

    This thank you is a little belated, but I truly appreciate the support you have shown as I try to create an athletics program at Bronx Park Middle School. Being on a sports team gives kids such a great sense of purpose belongingness and community. Providing us with resources to make that happen is a HUGE contribution. I know how meaningful it is for kids because weekend after weekend our high school alumni come back to the gym to be apart of our community. Kids wear their Bronx Park jerseys with a great sense of pride and that pride translates into the classrooms and into all aspects of their academic lives. The basketballs you have provided are new and of really high quality and make our kids feel valued and special. We also have enough basketballs so that every kid can use their own and we can spend time working on every individuals' skills.

  • Let's Hear it for Mathematics- A Step Toward College Readiness

    My project has enabled me to turn my classroom into a space in which all students feel accommodated. Through the use of technology and programs such as I-ready, Khan Academy, IXL, Socrative, NewsELA and many more my students are being guided through an educational process that is both engaging and catering to their individual needs. Students who need to be pushed are being asked more rigorous and critical questions about mathematics and literature. And students who need additional support to meet grade level expectations are now receiving that support. These headphones have allowed my students to take ownership of their own learning as they now can navigate through content at their own pace. Headphones allow students to watch videos, listen to explanations and utilize the interactive capabilities of online programs. Headphones also provide a space for students to focus and remove themselves from often over crowded classrooms so that they can concentrate and LEARN!”

Of course my classroom with still involve group projects and important class discussion based learning. However, many of my students do not yet have the mathematical skills to fully engage in 8th grade math content. My hope is to use technology to fill their gaps in understanding so that I can ensure they are on grade level and can be successful in a high school mathematics classroom. This may be the first step to ensuring that my students are equipped to succeed in college.

About my class
