  • Opportunities for a Thinking Classroom

    Funded Jan 13, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation. After reading the book, Thinking Classroom, I really wanted to change how I teach in my room. With you generous donation I have been able to place whiteboard surfaces around my room. Each morning students are placed into new random groups. They then work in their groups at their board for the entire math lesson. They work together to complete the opening problem which allows them to have productive struggle. If they make a mistake, they can easily erase and not feel embarrassed. If they are stuck, they also can look around the room and see what strategies other students have used.

I have seen growth in my students using this new strategy. That would not have been possible without your generosity. From myself and all my students, thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. George

  • Let's Get It "Write"!

    Funded Aug 11, 2021

I can't thank you enough for your generous donation to provide my students with the Ipevo camera. Students that are not usually wanting to go to the board and show their work and begging to be able to use the pen and "write" directly on the board. The students have even named her Betty. Can I use Betty?

My students are reluctant to be excited about word problems. This allows them to see the problem on the board and we then practice underlining and circling important words. They jump at the chance now to be called on and demonstrate their understanding of the problems.

It will continue to enhance their education and excitement over learning. Thanks again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. George

Students will be able to use this technology in all subject areas. For math, they can show their work on problems projected on the board. In most circumstances, when students are completing work in their math book, only the teacher walking around can see the work being done. With the iPevo, they can model their work on the board while it is displaying their math book. They can help students edit the writing by marking on displayed work without writing on a student's actual paper. Books can be annotated without damaging the pages. There are countless ways that this technology tool can be used to enhance students' learning.
