My students are Algebra I learners at a Title I public high school on the Southside of Chicago, Illinois. Approximately 92% of students come from low-income households. And, all of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Many of them do not have access to technology at home and are not accustomed to using technology for real-world purposes. My students are very bright and hungry to learn. Although they face many challenges that can adversely impact their education, they continue to prosper and push forward. Students can be seen collaborating, discussing, and ultimately solving math problems in class. In addition to solving abstract problems hey also like using manipulative's to explain math and enhance their learning experience. I have found that differentiated instruction works best with our population of students as the achievement gap continually widens as they complete subsequent years. Any technology we can get, greatly improves my students' learning experiences.
