Help our kids experience the world beyond our school with a trip to The California Academy of Sciences! We will be visiting 5 different exhibits; the Steinhart Aquarium, Kimball Natural History Museum, Rainforest Biome, California Exhibit and the Living Roof. In the aquarium students will experience underwater ecosystems that we have been reading about in our studies of the California coastal regions. They will even be able to touch and examine some of the creatures found in tidepools. This hands on opportunity will solidify student academic engagement in social environmental sciences that may not occur in a normal classroom setting.
Students will visit the Naturalist Center, where they can interact with real working scientists, being able to touch different specimens and ask questions about what they are experiencing in real time! This experience can be invaluable for some, as they may inspire future career choices. In addition, students will be able to see first-hand different animal adaptations that have been studied in the classroom.
Through exploring the Giants of Land and Sea exhibit, students will experience the natural wonders of California’s coastline. They will enter a fog room and have a true California experience. They will also be able to climb (virtually) a Redwood tree. Many students do not realize that these giant wonders are right in their backyard.
Last, but not least, our students will visit the Osher Rainforest .This exhibit features more than 1,600 live plants and animals. The rainforest is the the most biodiverse habitat in the world. As such, this exhibit is key to inspiring our students to become the engineers and scientists who will tackle the great issues of our day such as climate change, conservation and pollution. This field trip will be an unforgettable adventure for our students, the problem solvers of tomorrow.
