Help Create A Safe Space In The Classroom
Funded Mar 6, 2017We deeply appreciate the materials that your donations allowed us to receive. The materials for "Create a Safe Space in the Classroom" has helped all of the students to have a less stressful school experience.
When we received the materials, we talked about how we would use them in the classroom. The students were excited to see the stress balls and the TheraPutty. They also were thrilled about using the music CDs and the bean bag. The colorful folding crate was large enough to hold all of the supplies and keep them well-organized. Having the timer gave students accountability and responsibility for monitoring their time.
When students were faced with anger, sadness, or worry, they quickly turned to the Safe Spot for solace. It was very encouraging to see them help one another with using the timer and keeping the materials together. Of course, the project was not without its glitches. Some students used the area quite too often and others tried to avoid being timed. Thankfully, things worked themselves out and the the Safe Spot became a useful tool in times of crisis. Many students learned to cope with stress better and were able to slowly wean themselves from having to use the spot as often or at all, freeing it up for other students who hadn't quite reached that level. This was a wonderful achievement!
The next steps for the students are to reflect on how they used the Safe Spot this year to help them in times of crisis. They will talk, write, and discuss the positives and negatives of how the space was useful and how they might expand the "idea" in next year's classrooms even if they do not have a safe place with their new teacher. They will create practical solutions that they can use to solve or cope with everyday stressful situations.
Thank you again for all that you have given us. Without your support, none of this would have been possible.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Childs
Supplies For Math
Funded Feb 23, 2016Dear Donors,
I cannot began to express enough thank yous for your generous support of this project. As soon as we opened up the materials, the students were overwhelmed with excitement, eager to start using them.
We got started right away using the write and wipe dry erase boards and markers to solve problems of the day. The boards and markers made it so easy for the students to quickly write down facts and numbers. The markers allowed students to write big numbers that were easily seen. The dry erase factor made mistakes easily correctable. The students used the grid sides to practice making fractions. The students loved the math games and the various operations made for a fun way to practice the standards before the big state test. The folder games made self practice and partner practice equally fun. We continued to use the supplies all the way throughout the year and will enjoy having them to use next year.
Thank you so much for help making the subject of math less stressful for these students. You have given them a way to inspire them to want to learn and enjoy their learning. Please know that without you, this would not have been possible. We really appreciate what you have done.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Childs
