My students are most engaged in reading when they are able to read current, high-interest texts that they can relate to. My classroom did a pilot with these magazines this year, and I have never seen my students so engaged. We tried the magazines for 5 months, and each month my students are very excited to see the new bundle of magazines. My school is diverse with many high need students. Approximately 76% of our students receive free/reduced lunch and approximately 33% are English Language Learners. My students have been so excited to have their own magazine to keep and take notes in this year rather than a basal reader that they can't take notes in.
